A group of Israeli opposition lawmakers met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah to discuss the crisis in the peace negotiations Wednesday, amid heightened tensions over the shooting death of and Israeli man near Hebron on Passover eve.
Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz), who was part of the delegation, told The Jerusalem Post that Abbas denounced all terror including the killing of Baruch Mizrachi in Monday evening's terror attack.
"Abu Mazen [Abbas] said this specifically, he emphasized his disgust from bloodshed and terrorism. He said he's willing to participate in the investigation of the attack and to bring those accountable to justice," Horowitz said.
Horowitz expressed optimism on Wednesday that Abbas was a genuine partner in the peace talks. He also said that only a Center-Left oriented government could bring about the end to the conflict with the Palestinians.

Edit: no idea what Bibi is going to do at this point. I suspect Bibi doesn't know what Bibi is going to do right now.

(30,099 posts)I mentioned in another thread, and it may be nothing of significance, but I thought it was another example
of our disapproval and it made the press again...about Israel and Russia.
Most likely my wishful thinking at play.

(90,061 posts)Russia and Israel seem to have a growing affinity for each other. A few weeks ago, Israel abstained from a vote in the U.N. censuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that this is a sore spot for the White House and a diplomatic novum on the world scene:
This report and Israel's warming relations with Russia became an occasion for Andrew Sullivan to reflect on the similarities between those two nations. The political leaders in both countries conceive of themselves as leaders of distinctive ethno-nationalist states and both have expansionist tendencies justified on the protection of co-ethnics living outside their current borders.
Borrowing from a smart post by Daniel Larison, Sullivan says that if Israel were to agree to the American-supported resolution, it would condemn itself, since it does not hold to the same strict interpretation of territorial sovereignty on which the condemnation of Russia relied. Sullivan puts a very fine point on it.

(30,099 posts)sovereignty as well..uh, fill in the blank.........( pick any Neocon you prefer ).
My wishful thinking is, the US finally says, hey..you know what, you're on your own with respect
to the conflict. Ending the conflict would not alter our strategic alliance with Israel, they need us, so I wish they would
tell their lobby friends, it's over.
On edit, do you think the US would be concerned the Russia/Israel alliance could be strong enough
to leave us irrelevant? I find that hard to believe..but the world has become more fragile than ever.
