Israel should play a role in the reconstruction of Gaza, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a press briefing Wednesday.
"We do think that Israel will need to play a role in Gaza reconstruction," Psaki said when asked if Israel should play a greater role in the reconstruction of Gaza.
Psaki went on to praise Israel and the Palestinians for working together to help the residents of Gaza. "We were pleased to see that in the UN, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority agreed on procedures aimed at expediting the passage of relief materials into Gaza while taking into account Israels security needs," she said.
When asked if she meant that Israeli assistance to the reconstruction of Gaza should be limited to logistics, Psaki said that she thought that Israel should also contribute with materials. "Well, they have contributed materials in the past, and we certainly hope theyll do the same again."
