South African BDS Activists Target Woolworths Kosher Food Section With Severed Pigs Head

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel took another step into open antisemitism today when student activists in South Africa placed the severed head of a pig in the kosher meat section of a Woolworths store in Cape Town. The shocking gesture was aimed, the perpetrators said, at preventing “people who will not eat pork to pretend that they are eating clean meat, when it is sold by hands dripping with the blood of Palestinian children.”

Jewish leaders were quick to condemn the act, organized by the Congress of South African Students (COSAS,) a body affiliated with the ruling African National Congress (ANC.) “Disregarding all standards of basic decency, the Congress of South African Students today chose to send an ugly message to the Jewish community of South Africa. This morning, as a protest against Woolworths for stocking Israeli products, COSAS members in Cape Town deposited a pig’s head in the kosher meat section of a Woolworths food store,” said the South African Jewish Board of Deputies. “The SAJBD regards this incident as a hate crime and is investigating its options regarding taking the matter further.”

A spokesman for Woolworths claimed after the incident that there “were no kosher food products on the affected shelf” at the retailers’ Fort Road store in the Sea Point district. “Placing a pig’s head in our store is unacceptable and offensive to our employees and customers, including Jewish and Muslim employees and customers,” Paula Disberry, Woolworths group director of retail operations said in a statement. “We are investigating this incident and we will consider our options to prevent such distasteful protests in our stores.”

Or that Western activists opposition to Israel is because they are anti occupation or because they are anti Zionists or because the Palestinian people need Western "activists " to lead them as they can't do it themselves or they hate Bibi or they hate Herzl or Ben Gurion or The great Yitzchak Rabin.

Well no , BDS attracts support and supporters because there are Jews involved in this conflict.

There is nothing new under the sun for 2000+ years.

After all, BDS'ers never speak up for Hamas' Arab female, christian, black, gay, or child victims of their fascist policies.

They support a fascist state replacing Israel with either the totalitarians from Hamas or Fatah ruling via the darkest, most oppressive sharia law.

And perhaps some did. Opinions come in multitudes, if you hadn't noticed.

Anyone with access to DU's search feature can watch you and David - among several others - engaging in constant, eternal justification of every killing, every abuse, every bit of oppression against the Palestinians, all the way back to your respective signup dates.

and they can similarly search for my reaction, or azurnoir's mor any others - to acts like what hapepend in Walgreen's in SA here, and see our expressions of disgust and revulsion.

So. You keep up with your fairy tales, Shira. The reality is that while you and your sort dance and cheer abuse, killing, and oppression - even when it's agaisnt jews, sicne that just validates Zionism - the rest of us are disgusted with it, regardless of who the targets are.

Of course you won't find any Zionists here arguing against any of the ceasefires. We all supported that. You guys did not.

I didn't find anything like what you've claimed. I found accusations, of course, but no actual primary sources of BDS-ers saying "hell no, no ceasefire rarghblarglargle!" If you had such sources, i'm confident you would have provided them.So I have to surmise you're going off accusations made by your blog buddies.

Of course you won't find any Zionists here arguing against any of the ceasefires. We all supported that. You guys did not.

I suggest you engage in your own google-fu of DU Zionists and their history with regard to cease-fires. It's quite interesting. Especially the leftovers from DU2. Apparently the only good thing about ceasefires - according to you bunch - is that they can be used to blame Palestinaisn for getting killed by israel dropping bombs on their houses.

This is obvious projection. BDS, anti-zio friends of Hamas want precisely what you just claimed.

The Israeli government, followed suit by Western media and governments, was quick to put the blame on Hamas for that. Hamas – they claim – had an opportunity to accept a truce brokered by Egypt – and refused it. Others have already explained at length why this proposal crafted without any consultations with Hamas, was hard to accept by Hamas.

Much less noticed by the Western media was that Hamas and Islamic Jihad had meanwhile proposed a 10 year truce on the basis of 10 – very reasonable – conditions. While Israel was too busy preparing for the ground invasion, why didn’t anyone in the diplomatic community spend a word about this proposal? The question is all the more poignant as this proposal was in essence in line with what many international experts as well as the United Nations have asked for years now, and included some aspects that Israel had already considered as feasible requests in the past.

You'll find pretty much all BDS, anti-zio, fascist friends of Hamas spewing the same talking points during that time, defending Hamas' rejection of an Egyptian ceasefire proposal they ultimately accepted weeks later after thousands were dead.

Here's Ali Abunimah of ElectronicIntifada defending Hamas' rejection of the Egyptian proposal...
http://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/hamas-did-not-reject-ceasefire-israel-did

There were no concerned BDS, anti-zio voices out there calling on or begging Hamas to accept a ceasefire.

None. Wanna know why?

They were busy cheering on Hamas and the rockets...

That's BDS, anti-zionist, friends of Hamas, pro-fascist Jew-hating advocacy. In other words, the Palestinian cause 2014.

I challenge you to prove otherwise.

“We are not being bombastic when we say will bring the supporters of Israel pigs - we are being revolutionary,” Cosas in the Western Cape said.

However, BDSI distanced itself from Cosas’s actions.

“We believe that the methods used, namely placing pigs heads in South African Woolworths stores, are very controversial and may not have been properly thought through.

“It may be argued that the placing of pig heads is a form of militant human rights action however there is a great amount of sensitivity surrounding Halaal and Kosher food.

“The pig heads have now effectively made various Woolworths Stores a complete no-go zone for those that buy Kosher or Halaal as those areas are now contaminated,” said in a statement.

The latest actions of young people placing pig heads at various Woolworths stores - although aimed at increasing pressure on Woolworths - are not supported, endorsed or encouraged by Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) South Africa. We believe that the methods used, namely placing pigs heads in South African Woolworths stores, are very controversial and may not have been properly thought through. It may be argued that the placing of pig heads is a form of militant human rights action however there is a great amount of sensitivity surrounding Halaal and Kosher food. The pig heads have now effectively made various Woolworths Stores a complete no-go zone for those that buy Kosher or Halaal as those areas are now contaminated.

Despite discouraging this method of applying pressure (by placing pig heads in Woolworths Stores), we also recognize that this radical action was probably done with the good intention of helping the people of Palestine and as an expression of the increasing frustration against Woolworths by South African young people - particularly Woolworths stubborn refusal to meet with representatives from the NC4P, BDS South Africa and the larger #BoycottWoolworths campaign. Protests are increasing against Woolworths as the company tries to ignore the calls to end its relations with Apartheid Israel.

We, as BDS South Africa will be going ahead tomorrow with the #BoycottWoolworths National Day of Action but we will not support this method of protest - i.e. placing pig heads in Halaal and Kosher sections of Woolworths stores. BDS South Africa must state clearly that while we will condemn such actions, we are not responsible for them. It is clear to all that the easiest way to end all protest actions against Woolworths is for Woolworths to stop supporting Apartheid Israel.

We trust that Woolworths and other Apartheid Israel sympathisers will not try derail media and public focus from the #BoycottWoolworths National Day of Action by using this latest pig-head issue as a distraction.

We do not believe that taking pigs heads to Woolworths is correct; we also do not believe that Woolworths supporting Israeli Apartheid is correct. We will try our best to discourage both.

BDS South Africa will be convening a meeting with representatives of various organisations to discuss this matter.

I support action to end Israeli Apartheid, but the several recent incidences involving BDS South Africa supporters are disgusting, including Tony Eirenreich invoking an "eye for an eye" in a thinly veiled threat of violence against the SA Jewish board of deputies and BDS Guateng's Mohammed Desai leading a chant of "Shoot the Jews" (a riff on the controversial SA Apartheid era liberation chant "Kill the Boer", itself the target of anti-hate-speech legal action). COSAS, it seems, decided to be equal-opportunity hate-mongers in this latest incident and placed pigs heads in the Halaal as well as Kosher sections of woolies, doubling down on the idiocy. What the hell do they think they're achieving? And BDS SA's qualified distancing (at least in the case of of Desai they uneqivocally distanced themselves from the chants) is disappointing, too. As a South African I'm appalled by the failure of the movement to unequivocally divorce itself from these kinds of idiots.
