CAIRO (Ma'an) -- The Arab League Council will hold an emergency meeting on Sunday at Kuwait's request, the country's envoy to the League said in a statement Saturday.Aziz al-Dihani said the meeting would focus on the latest developments in the Arab World, and especially the Palestinian cause.
The Council will discuss the ongoing tensions in Jerusalem given Israeli "violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque," the recent Israeli offensive on Gaza, and the attack against Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai, the statement said.
Palestinian community officials say the wave of unrest gripping Jerusalem is fueled by a sense of hopelessness resulting from Israel's policies in occupied East Jerusalem, which have left many young people with a sense that they have nothing to lose.

(6,829 posts)I don't think they do.
The members of the Arab league do things like this to distract their populace from how repressed they are, as opposed to the rest of the world. So it benefits the Arab League governments to use Israel as a boogeyman.
I wonder what they would do if Israel were to withdraw completely from the West Bank, grant the Palestinians sovereignty over the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem. Who would be their boogeyman then?

(30,099 posts)two parties many years ago. They not long ago accepted at Kerry's request
to change the Arab Initiative or whatever they call it, for land swaps that
will benefit Israel, not the Palestinians...they were not on the same page about
that before the ME was a total disaster area.

(30,099 posts)within some of the worst leaders of the most oppressive Arab states? Yes, more now than
ever because they're responsible for the blow back they have created in their own countries
and the region, imo. i.e..ISIS
Has US foreign policy in the ME been disastrous in recent history? Yes
See Iraq and Libya..now Syria, etc. Go back even earlier to Iran..terrible policies.
Has Israeli policy toward the Palestinians been a thorn in the side of this region in the world? Undeniable.
Being dependent upon the people who create unrest willingly or not, for their own ideology, greed,
power, what have you..to depend on them all now to fix it can give one great pause to believe if
that is possible.
Here is what they had supported in the past:
snip* I. What is the international consensus for resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict?
One of the best kept diplomatic secrets is that a broad international consensus has long existed on how to settle the Israel-Palestine conflict. (1) Although this conflict has been depicted as among the most intricate, the authoritative political, legal and human rights bodies in the world in fact concur on the basis of its resolution. In the jargon of the so-called peace process, the final status issues are supposed to be so intractable that they need be deferred until the last stage of negotiations. These final status issues include borders, East Jerusalem, settlements, and refugees. The documentary record shows, however, that, on the terms for resolving these allegedly controversial issues, Israel and the United States stand virtually alone.
The United Nations General Assembly annually votes on a resolution titled, Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine. This resolution uniformly includes these tenets for achieving a peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine:
Affirming the principle of the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war;
Affirming also the illegality of the Israeli settlements in the territory occupied since 1967 and of Israeli actions aimed at changing the status of Jerusalem;
Stresses the need for: (a) The realization of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, primarily the right to self-determination; (b) The withdrawal of Israel from the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967;
Also stresses the need for resolving the problem of the Palestine refugees in conformity with its resolution 194 (III) of 11 December 1948.
Here is the recorded vote on this resolution the past decade:
