Israel/Palestine

http://mondoweiss.net/2015/01/palestinians-consequences-settlementsFirst, in yesterdays New York Times, longtime Israel advocate Dennis Ross called on all those who are pushing for a Palestinian state to offer Israel certain assurances, among them a resolution of the Palestinian refugee issue that allows Israel to retain its Jewish character.
Can you imagine the New York Times running an article saying that the U.S. has to be allowed to retain its white character in the face of rising numbers of Hispanics and Asian immigrants? No, you cant. It goes against a modern liberal understanding of how societies are composed to say such a thing. Or retain the U.S.s Christian character? Hogwash.
Now here is more hypocrisy flowing from the same official ideology, support for Israel. At yesterdays State Department briefing, spokesperson Jen Psaki warned that the Palestinian accession to the International Criminal Court could result in a reduction of US assistance to the Palestinian Authority. The New York Times echoes this threat today: Washington is expected to cut $400 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority if the International Criminal Court bid is not reversed.

Psaki tried to dodge the double standard question by saying it was up to Congress to reduce assistance.

Reminds me of the people who complain about Black History Month. "Can you imagine the US designating a whole month to celebrate white people? No, you can't."

(12,606 posts)Post something useful, ober. Let's see you try.

(58,724 posts)I think the comparison he makes is ridiculous and shows a complete lack of understanding of the subject. Or rather a deliberately manipulative means to make a specious rhetorical point.

(12,606 posts)I believe that he is spot on WRT Psaki's evasions.
Oh, you're welcome to go farther than the usual blanket statement, ober. Be specific. Cite examples of what you really mean...

(58,724 posts)Just like, say, Alan Dershowitz - who is generally mocked when his articles are posted here.
I tried to pull a quote from the article that illustrates why, in my view, Philip Weiss ought not to be taken seriously.
That's pretty much all I have to say on this article.
If it was up to me, sites like Mondoweiss wouldn't be allowed to be posted here - like how it was in the earlier days before you joined the forum.

(12,606 posts)No kidding? Really?
Well, it's a good thing we don't have censorship, ober style.
If we did perhaps not many sites would be allowed to be linked to.
If we did may I suggest Israel would be the bestest place in the entire world, and the Palestinians would not exist?
All I get from the lethargic deniers, IMHO, is how bad Israel is treated, but let's poopoo any criticism that shows it for what it really is: an apartheid state.
On edit: Thank you once again, ober, for showing that you can't even acknowledge the hypocrisy of Psaki.

(3,385 posts)What would you say to continued posts of Thomas Sowell, Victor Davis Hansen, or Dennis Prager (assuming they were even allowed on DU)? You'd reject them out of hand, the same way that we reject anything by Weiss or from Mondoweiss.

(30,109 posts)The same argument by Weiss could presumably be used to allow the Chinese to flood Tibet entirely; robbing Tibet of its cultural identity altogether.
There's nothing wrong with the Jewish state keeping its Jewish identity. No more than any other country wanting to maintain its unique culture & identity.
