Gaza to start importing citrus fruits from Israel starting Sunday

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture in the Gaza Strip said Friday that the coastal enclave will be allowed to import citrus fruits from Israel starting Sunday.

The general director of marketing for the ministry, Tahsin Saqqa, said that the ministry will begin allowing the import of oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, and pomelos on Sunday through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Saqqa said that the decision was intended to help balance fruit prices in Gaza.

He said that the Gaza Strip's demand for citrus fruits could reach 36 thousand tons in total, of which 70 percent would be locally grown and the rest imported.
