Israel decides not to go to war with Hezbollah

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/middle-east/16664-israel-decides-not-to-go-to-war-with-hezbollah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided on Wednesday not to respond to a recent Hezbollah attack that killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded seven others.

The decision came as Netanyahu met with his reduced cabinet to discuss a message sent by Hezbollah saying that it saw the attack as a suitable response for the recent killing of several of its senior officials and an Iranian general in the Golan Heights.

A military analyst speaking on Israeli TV channel 10 commented that Hezbollah had sent a message saying that it has now ceased military operations. Israel responded that it, too, has ceased engagement.

One Israeli soldier was killed and seven others were wounded in the ambush carried out by Hezbollah early on Wednesday. Israeli artillery immediately returned fire and killed a UN peacekeeper in South Lebanon.

I guess things are different when somebody can actually punch back against the neighborhood bully..

And if they did decide to go to war with Hezbollah, the response would be:

"Once again, Israel picks fights with its neighbors and attacks innocent civilians...."

Or something along those lines.

Literally no action Israel could take or not take in this scenario that wouldn't get a negative response from some folks.

Do you realize how funny it is that you are criticizing Israel now for not attacking Hezbollah?

Well, ober, if Israel did decide to attack civilians, as was the case in Gaza, would you be yucking it up with the king?

Do you realize how funny it is that you are criticizing Israel now for not attacking Hezbollah?

Israel is really good at bombing a city flat while killing hundreds of unarmed civilians and children, ober. It's also really good at colonization and keeping a population under the yoke of oppression.

My observation was that Israel is not so good when the other side can punch back. You can misread that all you want to.

13. Israel never decides to attack civilians

They attack military targets and civilians are regrettably killed in the process.

But some folks like to characterize it as if Israel is just killing civilians for kicks (such as what you've written here).

That is what we'd probably be reading if they attacked Hezbollah and anyone got killed in the process who was a civilian.

Oddly, you don't consider Hamas's attacks against Israel to be "punching back" but do you Hezbollah's.

Why is that?

then you're right. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. That's why the whiners are irrelevant.

Israel can punch. The fact that they decided not to should be lauded by you. The fact that is not is precisely why there can NEVER be progress.

Literally damned if you do and damned if you don't.

7. Right. Tell that to all the dead Palestinian children and their families.

I'm sure that will comfort them.

Israel shows "great restraint" in killing? I guess that they could have killed a lot more, right? Teach em a lesson and all.

Which gets back to my earlier comment about some people being able to punch back.

The IDF prefers to attack only people that can't punch back.
