Settlers attack, wound six-year-old Palestinian girl

http://972mag.com/settlers-attack-wound-six-year-old-palestinian-girl/104691/

The girl was wounded after a group of masked settlers threw rocks at her near the entrance to the illegal outpost of Havat Maon, said B’Tselem. She was also lightly injured in her leg as she attempted to flee. B’Tselem reported that Israeli police took the girl and her father to a local station to file a complaint, and that she was treated at a local clinic for her wounds. The police are currently searching for suspects.

Attacks by settlers on Palestinian civilians are a nearly everyday occurrence across the occupied West Bank. While Palestinians themselves are often the target of settler violence, Palestinian homes, property and sources of income are also constantly at risk. Just between March 10-15, OCHA recorded seven attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians or their property. This included physical assault and injury of two men in Hebron and East Jerusalem; the uprooting of 72 olive trees in At Tuwani and Al Khader; and vandalism to four vehicles and several water tanks.

According to human rights group Yesh Din, between 2005-2013 just 8.5 percent of investigations against Israeli settlers suspected of harming Palestinians and their property ended in indictment. In the vast majority of cases, the investigators simply failed to locate the offenders or to collect sufficient evidence for prosecution. If recent history is any guide, the likelihood that the settlers who attacked the girl will be located is extremely low.

And while the police and army are considered the two bodies entrusted with protecting the Palestinian civilian population, they often protect the settlers or turn the other cheek in the face of their violence.

My what brave illegal settlers these Israelis are.

Israel IS an apartheid state. It's time for BDS.

Israel busts West Bank Hamas cell planning bomb attacks

Israeli security personnel arrested six Palestinian men suspected of belonging to a Hamas cell in the West Bank that was plotting to carry out bombings in Israel, the Shin Bet security service said Sunday

A joint operation by the Shin Bet security service, Israel Police and IDF uncovered the cell in the West Bank city of Qalqilya and found dozens of pounds of sulfur and several grams of mercury fulminate, components for explosives, the security agency said in a statement.

There was no indication of when the arrests took place, but announcements typically come a month or more after arrest operations.

The members of the cell told Israeli authorities that they were drafted into Hamas’s armed wing while in Jordan, underwent training in the Gaza Strip, and were dispatched to the West Bank to carry out attacks and enlist other operatives, according to the Shin Bet.

Israel has many small extremist settlers that needs to be placed in mental institutions. But the number of extremist attacks is small compared to daily PA/Hamas attack.

My guess is that the settler has been arrested and dealt with already for injuring the 6 year old.

But it has no right to expect to be able to silence all debate and dissent on its actions by shouting "self-defense".

The things people condemn the Israeli government for generally have nothing to do with "self-defense".

Settlement expansion has never been about self-defense(in fact, it has actually jeopardized Israeli security)

The destruction or theft of the ancient Palestinian olive groves(an act that has left tens of thousands of Palestinians with no way
of making a living has nothing to do with "self-defense".

Attacks on children(and I'm not just talking about the Gaza school bombings) have nothing to do with "self-defense".

Attempting to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state(when Israel knows that all that can come of preventing that is greater tolerance of and support for those engaged in armed struggle and extreme tactics)has nothing to do with "self-defense".

These things have one objective and one objective only: to make Palestinian self-determination impossible and thereby to force the people of Palestine to choose only between statelessness at home(confederation with Jordan would be the same thing as statelessness)and permanent exile.

The Israeli government has no right to expect anyone outside of Israel to support its in this objective.

I use quotes because any Israelis living in the WB (other than the old city) are there illegally. More like colonizers.

I think that may be part of the reason that so many Southern and Western Republicans claim to be so deeply "pro-Israel&quot not that any conservatives in this country actually like Jews, mind you).

To them, this is a modern-day, live action cowboy film-it's just that, instead of being a "Western", it's a "Middle Eastern".
