United Nations Human Rights Council to convene again on Israeli violations in Gaza and West Bank.
A report charging that Israel apparently deliberately targeted civilian homes will be presented Monday to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva by its special investigator Makarim Wibisono.
Is is part of a general debate the UNHRC will hold on Israeli violations of human rights during its 28th session.
The day will open with a short initial oral report from the controversial Commission of Inquiry into the Gaza war, which is made up of a two-member investigatory team, headed by former New York Supreme Court judge Mary McGowan Davis.
She and Senegalese legal expert Doudou Diene have looked at human rights violations in Gaza, the West Bank and east Jerusalem from June 13 to the end of Operation Protective Edge last summer.

(42,641 posts)Israel has been targeting civilian homes since Irgun and Stern began their campaign of terror in 1946. What took the UN so long, and what will be the conclusion?

(25,699 posts)Not that these claims actually justify targeting civilians and infrastructure of a people under occupation with military force.

(6,831 posts)that the UNHRC is not a credible/unbiased group to be doing investigations. They consistently are biased against Israel. The fact that they refused to investigate Hamas, while only investigating Israel, is further proof of this.

(30,099 posts)Israel will ignore anyone they can't control, and if they can't control them, the US will
dismiss them for Israel. Either way, no accountability, no end to the occupation, as there
will not be any incentive to do so.
My sympathies are with the Palestinian people and those within Israel who
support a viable two state solution.

(6,831 posts)to be credible (any of them) they have to criticize Hamas for their actions as well as Israel. Hamas's goal was to kill and maim civilians, and cause terror among them. Israel's goal was to root out Hamas, which they did with far too heavy a hand, and excuse the expression, were ham-handed at it.
My sympathies as well are with those among both people who want a viable two-state solution.
Hamas is not among those people.

(30,099 posts)policies like that are the basis of the war crimes allegations? It is not relevant what any
government claims their intent was...like any of them are honest about that..no, they
are not.
Those other human rights groups have consistently and repeatedly documented
Hamas war crimes, this is denied by Israeli officials and we, the US, enable that myth.

(6,171 posts)This is mainly because I compare to what I know about civilian areas being bombed, causing widespread civilian casualties. I compare the bombing of Gaza with the bombings of places like Guernica, Dresden and Aleppo. These examples are clear examples of terror bombing, and where civilians were targeted. There is no other mechanism that I know of that could explain what the IDF did.
Its also very significant that Israel is refusing to cooperate with the UN or the ICC. Only those guilty of war crimes are unwilling to reveal the truth of what happened, IMHO.

Of course they deliberately targeted civilian homes.
