http://mondoweiss.net/2015/03/after-aipac-newsweekAnother important report in Newsweek says that Netanyahu alienated a crucial constituency he needed to block an Iran deal: black Congresspeople. They disliked his upstaging of Obama, most of them boycotted his speech, and they saw his racebaiting on election day:
According to aides, the South Carolina Democrat [James Clyburn] bluntly told [Israeli legislator Yuli] Edelstein he regarded the prime ministers upcoming speech as an affront to Americas first black president.
But for black Democrats like Clyburn, it was Netanyahus coded election-day warning that Israels Arab citizens were headed to the polls in droves to vote him out of office that pushed them from anger to outrage. Netanyahu later apologized for his remark, but his contrition appeared to have no effect on Clyburn and company. The Congressional Black Caucus is gone, a Democratic congressional aide told Newsweek, referring to its support for Israel under Netanyahu.
As negotiators from the U.S., Iran and five major powers close in on a framework nuclear accord in Geneva to meet an end-of-March deadline, Netanyahus loss of black support on Capitol Hill probably means hes lost his gamble to create a way for Congress to pass a bill that would block an agreement. Bibi, a congressional aide said, using Netanyahus nickname, ensured there will be no veto-proof majority in the House.

(90,061 posts)Much as I like MondoWeiss I must agree that this smacks of being too eager for the supporting news item.
And I will be really surprised if Obama "goes after" AIPAC; that is the sort of thing AIPAC does, not the sort of thing Obama does. AIPAC "goes after" people, Obama is more of an "OK, I'll let you destroy yourself if that is what you REALLY want, but let's talk first" sort of guy.

(90,061 posts)You know me pretty well Oberliner, trust your instincts.
I'm sort of on the same side as MondoWeiss, I suppose, but I never go there except following someone else's thread, if you see, they're not really my cup of tea, I'm more of a news obsessive. Places that get to focused on some issues, too special purpose, don't get my attention, and that includes pretty much any site that solely focuses on I/P or Jewish issues.
That's what I like about DU, it's general purpose, moderated, and everything shows up here eventually.
Edit: Hey and you could thank me for the support, I didn't have to do that.

(58,724 posts)Unlike the writers there, I think you see human rights as universal and are not more interested in human rights violations when Israel commits them than when Hamas does as Mondoweiss confesses to being.
I think you recognize that Mondoweiss is the flip side of the same coin as sites that are only interested in Palestinian/Arab misbehavior and minimize/excuse those of Israel.
Also, I don't think you have the sort of torturous relationship with Judaism that the founder and namesake of the site has which informs his perspective on the subject.
But I could be wrong.

(90,061 posts)But seriously, am I not supposed to care what anybody thinks? I just should find the one guy who knows the truth and I should only listen to him? How do you know that he's the guy?
Do you only read people because you think they have a pipeline to objectivity? That causes me to wonder whether it's worth listening to you.

I'd trust less of Mondoweiss because it has been spitting out a lot of propaganda that has already been debunked.
