Same-Sex Ceremony on Base Has Republicans Saying It Broke the Law

Two women took part in a commitment ceremony at a Louisiana military base in May, according to the Associated Press, and that has two Republican congressman saying it was improper.

When the military approved guidelines last year allowing chaplains to perform weddings for same-sex couples, it said marriages could only be performed in states where it was legal and with a willing chaplain.

But Rep. John Fleming said that because the women's ceremony at Fort Polk was "marriage-like" it should have also been stopped.

They don't KNOW the LAW. The military base is not under their control, not their jurisdiction freshwest Jun 2012 #3

It was a "commitment ceremony" not a "marriage ceremony" and the officiant was a willing participant.

If they are going to get shitty about off-duty functions, well, there will be no more children's birthday parties for servicemembers' kids at the base food court anymore, either, because there is no "law" that specifically permits them.

Those GOP "lawmakers" can kiss my raddled old ass.
