The American Psychiatric Association removes homosexuality from its official list of mental illnesses.
Nov. 27, 1978
Harvey Milk, an openly gay politician elected one year earlier to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, is assassinated in City Hall by former city supervisor Dan White. Mayor George Moscone is also slain. White served only five years in prison.
The National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights takes place in Washington and draws more than 75,000 people demanding equal civil rights.

Maybe it's my Aspergers or the dementia or, on occasion, the martinis.
The LGBT forum is nearly always good. Much less chair throwing and defenestrations than many other DU forums. Not that I eschew controversy; I just prefer respectful discussion and prefer that nobody get thrown through a window, with forgiveness given to John Wayne flicks.
Keep on keeping on.

(40,416 posts)If only the religion forum was as respectful. I am working on that. Already have one on ignore -- after nearly a decade here, my first. If only atheists learned from the LGBT community.

LGBT is winning. I am not so sure about the seculars. The extent to which a group fights within; they cannot possibly win without.
LGBT is schooling the world, just like MLK did. Near flawless long term strategy.
Kudos to everybody. And everybody benefits. It's the lesson that too many forget. Myopia is a terminal human condition.
