Emmy-award winning actress Jane Lynch has joined a boycott targeting the direct-sales giant Amway, according to mLive.
LGBT rights activist Fred Karger, who launched the boycott in August, said Lynch grabbed the pen out of my hand and signed away when asked to add her name to a postcard. The postcard, along with 50 others like them, have been sent to Amway president and owner Doug DeVos.
Tax records obtained by Karger show that DeVos donated $500,000 to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) Education Fund through his Douglas & Maria DeVos Foundation.
NOM was formed in 2007 to pass Proposition 8 in California, a constitutional amendment to prohibit same sex marriage. The organization has fought against proposals in numerous states to legalize same sex marriage and allow same sex couples to adopt children.

(115 posts)This is one of MANY MANY reasons to not support the Amway/The Devos family. Betsy has also been a driving force for the profitiztion of education for a very long time.

(4,218 posts)It's hard getting money for a Broadway musical. Despite the recent success of Once, no one thinks a Broadway musical is a great investment. So ridiculously rich people need to be involved. Long ago the wealthy were often content to act as nameless investors; now they increasingly want a producing credit. And so, Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson, is, according to press releases for the show, officially "produced by Dick and Betsy DeVos, Foursquare Foundation and Jeffrey Finn, Executive Producer, in association with The 5th Avenue Theatre."
The DeVos' have a charity (which bears their name, of course) that reportedly is focused on providing funds to religious groups and organizations that encourage free-market economies. Dick DeVos is also known for launching an unusually expensive -- and ultimately failed -- bid for Michigan governor. Amway, a direct-selling company, is known for producing a lot of different products, and has been coincidentally promoted a few times on Today, which Scandalous librettist and lyricist Kathie Lee Gifford hosts. (In addition to the company itself, Gifford has also lauded ArtPrize, which was founded by Rick DeVos and sponsored by Amway and the Dick & Betty DeVos Family Foundation.)
I can't stand Kathie Lee - I did not see her mentioning Amway on the Today Show but she is pimping that show every day before I can switch the channel.
