Victory in Memphis!! Workplace Protections

I saw this on Queer Landia:

Great news coming out of Memphis Tennessee! The Memphis City Council passed two amendments in a 9-4 vote adding gender identity and sexual orientation to workplace protections.

"Additionally, councilwoman Janis Fullilove proposed an amendment to the ordinance that added protections on the basis of “gender identity.” "

Love her name.

State Law trumps local ordinances.

"It’s unclear if the law is enforceable, however, because of a state law passed last year prohibiting municipal nondiscrimination protections from extending beyond what Tennessee already has in place."
