If your local Pride Center posted this picture on FaceBook would you be offended?

Transgender Day of Remembrance was just a few days ago, so I find the timing of this post another example of cisgender gay men exerting their insensitivity toward the gender queer/non-conforming/transgender community.

They have a new Executive Director, so if he's the one that posted it, I think I might have to resign from one of his committees if the proper action is not taken.

One, if you are marrying someone and you don't know them well enough to know there past there is a problem. Two, if you are gay and you can't put yourself in another human beings shoes you have failed your community. Three, if you think the above is funny or something that should be laughed at you really need to grow up and get educated.

And for those on DU who think we have it easy on the East Coast, you should know that every day is STILL A CONSTANT FIGHT for those of us who want to guarantee that ALL LGBTQ Americans have full equality.

Well, obviously it IS, but I'm hoping there's an explanation that doesn't implicate the new director. Doesn't seem likely -- but maybe it's a PR effort.

The cartoon was obviously created by a straight man.

Call me a deluded optimist, or someone who's trying to grasp onto something that finally supported us, but I'm going to wait for an explanation. What else can we do?

if you feel so strongly about it, stop supporting the center and let the board of directors know why

No one should ever withhold their support for an LGBTQ entity when they have the ability to create change through education.

I informed the ED about the infraction and let the Board of Directors know about the course of action I took. Everything has been resolved.

If I had told the Center I didn't support them any longer because of something a staffer did that was offensive, how does anyone learn from such an unproductive reaction?

Style and content both.
Reminds me of more repressive times.

Maybe your Pride-Center's Facebook editor is kind of a dope. Certainly clueless.
Maybe a little word will encourage editor to replace the dumb cartoon with something better.

to post something that promotes transbigotry.

The Executive Director and Board of Directors are mortified that this was posted to their FaceBook homepage. They have removed the cartoon and posted an apology.

As to not care about the content of his newlywed's character/person as much or more than their voluptuous... ahem... voluminous attire... then frankly I hope they live in a nation that has banned divorce so that he can get his just desserts for being a fucking dipshit.

As for if it's offensive, of course it is. Was it intentional? Perhaps, but I'd rather think that it was an absence of good thought that brought this stupid scene to life.

I hope whoever posted that mess is duly chastened.
