Do you think this OP represents straight-male privalage?

Seems like it to me.

The phrase "suck it" is a nicer way of saying "suck my dick." It is an insult that based on the notion that those who suck dick (some women and some gay men) are inferior to those who have their dick sucked. Otherwise, the phrase would not work as an insult.

Adding the insult "douchebag" seems to add the already, in my opinion, sexist/homophobic phrase.

the poster is referencing.

It sounds more like junior-high boys locker-room talk to me (or sports bar on the day of a hotly contested game). The sort of thing that I've learned to ignore because it is so juvenile that I'd grind my teeth to nubs if I paid attention to it.

That said, I can only see it from my perspective, which is not male. I'm just glad I'm not so much of a sports fan that I feel the need to hang out in that forum, because it seems to be imploding as the inmates take over the asylum.

It doesn't explain the term "suck it," or its coupling with the feminine hygiene product.

Consider: "Kiss my ass you jealous fucks!" or "Suck shit you jealous pukes!"

The message is the same, but the straight-male privilege has been removed.

so a douchebag is, in colloquial usage, someone full of filth and body waste.

To be honest with you, also, I dont think of the term douchebag as a reference to a strictly feminine hygiene product; in fact, a douchebag can be used for hygienic reasons for either gender.

At least, as intended. It's not that I don't understand that it's a timeworn popular insult/putdown; it's rather I feel sort of like, by feeling offense, I am rendering legit such expressions of homophobia and misogyny.

Does it represent straight male privilege?

Not really. It represents some ignorant hillbilly way of looking at the world. I am not a hillbilly, and I am not ignorant.

I guess taking offense at that, to draw an imperfect analogy, is somewhat like a member of the Hilton family complaining that some European socialists employ "capitalist pig" language. How sympathetic would you be?

In other words, don't give bigots the opportunity to spread their shit all over the place. Kind of why I always object to people who post links to Free Republic. I KNOW people on that board are homophobic; I neither need to be reminded of that, nor do I need to see what crap they are spewing about gay people today.

Anyway, hope that makes some sense.

What their intent was instead of assuming, IMHO. All we could do is guess their intents. As for the general statement "suck it" or "suck my dick"... I stand by what I stated. It isn't sexist because guys suck plenty of dick too. And douchebag isn't sexist either because both men and women use them for the same reason. As for homophobic, I don't see either as homophobic because sexuality doesn't determine whether either actions are undertaken.

If I am wrong, then tell me what the phrase means. The intent is not what I am talking about, I am talking about the meaning of the phrase. If I am wrong, then the explanation should be easy.

My point is that it can't be sexist or homophobic because a multitude of sexes and orientations suck dick and douche.

(Never thought I'd say that on DU.)

No one group is being stereotyped. Everyone is equally qualifying for the two groups so no one is being singled out or excluded. Thus no sexism or homophobia IMHO.

Why does it imply that sucking a dick a bad thing? Why does it imply that douching is a bad thing (frankly I'd say it's an important thing as a gay male).

In reality it is just a phrase that is used without thought to meaning. Like son of a bitch or god damn it. Hell I say god damn it entirely too often for an atheist, but that's because the phrase is a place-setting for what I really mean nothing else.

I don't even know why I'm arguing about this. I don't care at all. It was a stupid post for them to make. And nothing will come of arguing about it.
