My apologies for using 'closet case' re: a GOP anti-gay representative in another post.

It was hidden and I can see why.

I did not intend to insult anyone, and if it matters, I am a G in the LGBT.

But, not in my defense, how many times has someone who has been virulently anti-gay been in the closet him/herself.

Again, sorry, folks.

On DU I am a bit more careful what I post because things can be taken the wrong way. A good term to use here is I wonder what is in his/her closet. Sorry you post was hidden, because I am sure you did not mean any offense.

in the group oftentimes turns out to be a self loathing closet type.

Why should anyone other than the self loather apologize?

I think we should start putting far more attention on the larger closet, the walk in, nay, drive in closets of the vast American Straight Community....because when that closet door gets cracked open now and again it never really gets noticed as the closet it is. But every single married couple who are not exactly Ozzie and Harriet who do in fact pretend to be PTA Patty and her devoted Hubby are living closeted lives. The many straight politicians who put forward the wife and kids and say 'this is me' when they actually have a fetish for this or that, a mistress, a chest of adult costumes, these are closeted people.
I think the reason many straights fear the LGBT closet coming to an end is because they really like their closets. If we are open then will they have to admit to the toy room, the mink restraints, the trips to places where they 'let loose'? How can they face the kids if they can't pretend to be that which they are not?
I know a couple that swings like a saloon door, presents to the world as Mr and Mrs Just So, and that's fine, but they don't see that they are closeted, they think they are like super hipsters. They hide things in their home, no one is allowed in part of the house, they keep some friends away from other friends, they frequently lie about what they are doing, where they are going, why they are not attending, not big stuff, but we all know how that is...it's the closet.
And when found out, straights rarely take the moment, what they do is deny, then confess, claim repentance and return to the closet like beaten puppies. Just once I'd like to hear one of them say 'Yes, alright, those ARE my garters, and I'm ordering bespoke spike heels to go with them, now you all know, so tell me, how do I look in this skirt?'

Lots of people when 'outed' as gay just say 'Yes, yes, now you know, would you like to come to our wedding?' Few double down on the denial like the outed straight person.
Straights say 'I'm so sorry about the diapers, about my poor judgement, I have shamed my country, my God and my family' when they could say 'Yeah, I can see how the diaper thing seems strange, but look at my wife, she's a freak too, we are match made well, we have a few good friends with similar interests and really, so what?'
The real closet is the straight closet. They want us to remain in closets so that they can really hunker down in theirs.

So thanks for mentioning closets....

BTW, if you want to marry, please consider coming up here to Maine! Last November we voted for Marriage Equality with my wife's and my votes!

Now we need to avoid another 3+ way race where he can sneak in with 38% again.

Given who the post is about I took it as a slam against the LGBT community at large because the person being ridiculed is perceived as a effeminate male (if I had been on the jury, I also would have voted to hide).

Gay or straight that comment should not have been used in the general public (no matter who it is) with close friends, thats another story.

Also that comment gets thrown around as a pejorative slam.

Prove he's gay & all bets are off otherwise his sexuality is nobody's damn business.

I do though appreciate that you did apologize.

I've had 3 posts hidden or deleted by the moderators since I've been here. 2 were OPs inthe old DU and 1 hidden by jury here. The 2 ops were about the rather easy virtue of george w shithead"s span and the other was an inappropriate comment about an alleged lack of grace when I saw an old video of her in a cheerleader routine. The post that was hidden by jury was one where I used an inappropriate term or 2 about the wicked witch of the west (Jam Brewer).

I agree that the post about george w shithead's daughters was out of bounds, not because they weren't a digrace, but because I believe that the children are off limits in a political debate. That was made difficult becaue of sarah palin(comparison)'s kids and the entire romney family.

I was wrong with the Natalee Holloway post because she was a CHILD who went on a vacation to have fun and was (most likely) murdered by a rich little shit who seems to portray a romneyesque attitude of entitlement. I think he probably thought he was ENTITLED to kil her.

In each of these cas, I should have heeded my mom's old advice of "weigh it before you say it".

I guess that my point is that we all are human and we all make mistakes now and again. I am nowhere near stupid enough to say I won't do something that I regret again.

That's my 2 cents, and quite probably overpriced at that!

PEACE!

Downthread, William expressed a lot of what I am thinking.

And if you look today, there is a thread about Graham entitled "The Daily Vapors", and DU'ers laughing about it and the mention in the article about his "fainting couch"

This is homophobia, and sexist, in my opinion -
1) being effeminate means you are gay (which is not true),
2) being effeminate is somehow wrong and worthy of ridicule.
