She has not performed adequately on LGBT rights. If it were Dick Cheney, you'd be happy. What does that say?

If private events, aka fundraisers are sacrosanct, then why did we all tweet romoney's "47%" remark? wasn't that made at a private fundraiser.

I'm not a big fan of heckling, and have only the greatest respect for the FLOPTUS, but keep the argiment rational

this is about the only thing that gets something out in the open for discussion.

Does anyone really think this woman, or anyone else for that matter, who is so unhappy or so unequal or so very worried, that this is what they do and enjoy it?

Is there not anyone out there freaking out about this who has enough compassion or empathy left for the person who is doing this because their life is not what it should be? These are the only people likely to ever help them change the situation and they are not doing it or won't do it until they are pestered and bothered and publically pushed. Ohhh pestering them and interrupting them is so RUDE. Guess what, if they were inclined to help without constant prodding then this would not be necessary. If equality does not sound like a good enough thing to take care of sometime in the 8 years of this "liberal" democratic administration, when the tides of public thought about these issues is changing rapidly, then I think this woman was more than polite. Her life is at stake, the next number of years may just make this worse if it is not taken care of now. I call letting that happen rude in the very least.

She was successful. It worked. She sacrificed a lot of privacy and probably comfort to put herself out there, do something "outrageous" to further a cause that is important. The reaction here blows my mind. I can't say more. Angry and you know what being rude gets you these days.

I just saw that this is posted in the LGBT forum. I spent too much time and bile to put it down to just delete it. Posting to the choir again, sorry.

it's so terribly rude to interrupt the little darlings! My god, I cannot even fathom how many monocles were dropped into champagne glasses that night from utter surprise and shock. Just sit down and wait your turn....they just need time to "evolve."

I mean that's how the civil rights movement worked, everybody just sat down in a church pew and waited...and waited...waited, waited, and waited some more, for the southern establishment to ya know, evolve!

Great post btw.

One person is denied basic human rights by her own government.

The other was treated rudely in a millionaire's living room.

Which of these things garners the outrage?

(FWIW, I'm not a fan of heckling.)

Well and simply put. I like your ability to hone it down. I can't do that so thank you!

that the strategy of heckling a (mostly) sympathetic person is not such a great one. Perfectly reasonable argument. I'm not sure how we get from that to "you people have plenty of rights" and the like, though.

And the poster in question has a long history as DU's very own Barbara Bush, who doesn't want to trouble her beautiful mind with talk of human rights and such when it's so much nicer to think of happy things, like the president in his swimsuit.

Well, that and the fucking charges we are all a bunch of racists.

Like you, not a fan of heckling, at all, of anyone. Protesting...FUCK YES! But the actions of this ONE woman do NOT represent the entire community, and it is her right to do what she did, she didn't threaten the First Lady nor make it seem as if it were a racially motivated attack. If anything, this event has shown that some are not pleased we are not far enough under the bus!

Oh but wait until elections roll around, then it's "where's your money?!"

Of course, the palace guard is salivating all over that one, but no, I'm not responsible for what someone else does, and I can't recall that person being crowned Queen of All Gays. (Perhaps I missed the meeting that night.)

And no, you didn't miss a meeting. I haven't given up my crown yet!

ETA: There is now a post where someone posted something from another forum claiming GetEqual did this on purpose. So the story is evolving to "it was a set-up conceived by a gay group."

my loyalty to Ms. Obama by posting in the GD threads that I am opposed to the heckling of her. If I don't pass this purity test, then I am proven to be a racist and a misogynist. Apparently every gay DUer is suspect and must make a public repudiation of the racist, misogynistic attack on her by "teh gay community." Failure to do so convicts us of being racist, misogynistic pigs.

Shades of 1984.
