Survey: N.J. Dems might have enough votes in state Senate to approve gay marriage

(This is a crosspost from LBN that everyone should see... http://www.democraticunderground.com/101428611)

TRENTON — As state lawmakers gathered Tuesday to usher in a new session with their high hopes and soaring phrases, an informal survey showed that a majority of senators support the idea of same-sex marriage, though some said they wanted to review the details of newly proposed legislation.

While the marriage measure has been presented by Democratic leaders as a legislative priority, attention is also riveted on economic issues like raising the minimum wage and enacting a millionaires tax, and now a proposal by Gov. Chris Christie to reduce the state income tax by 10 percent.

And although the pieces appear to be falling into place in the Senate for the approval of same-sex marriage, Democrats have not cobbled together the two-thirds majority necessary to overcome a likely veto by Christie.
