Out2Enroll is a coalition of organizations who want to help lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people stay healthy by making sure that one of the major benefits of the Affordable Care Act -- access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance coverage -- reaches LGBT communities. We see a lot of political videos. But nothing quite like this ad from Out2Enroll, an effort to get folks in the LGBT community to enroll in Obamacare. Rick Santorum might spontaneously combust if he ever watched this. With the deadline to sign up for the Affordable Care Act pushed back to Tuesday, this holiday themed piece may bring a few more people into the fold. Or at least spark some, uh, good cheer.

My first thought after watching that: Damn, I’ve got to start doing some crunches.

There’s a lot of serious reasons for the need for outreach into the LGBT community. One in three LGBT folks doesn’t have health insurance, according to a survey from a liberal think tank, the Center for American Progress. There is a high rate of poverty in the community. And HIV rates are increasing among young gay men — the target audience of this new ad.

Not surprisingly, this ad is not going over well in some conservative circles. If they had a problem with Pajama Boy, as we discussed Monday, there’s going to have a problem with this one. Check out World Net Daily’s headline on a story about the ad by best-selling author and birther Jerome Corsi: “Obamacare Jumps the Shark with Gay Christmas.” Man, if that headline doesn’t jump-start your SEO, nothing will.
