Amarillo Globe-News publishes editorial against gay marriage; commenters takedown editors

In a sign of just how far we’ve come, I never dreamed of the day when I would be surprised to see the Amarillo Globe-News editorializing against same-sex marriage. The AGN’s editorial board is pandering to its right-wing subscribers up in arms about a federal judge’s decision striking down Oklahoma’s marriage ban:

It is interesting how — to some — the rights of states to govern themselves apply only in certain situations. For example, the federal government looks the other way as far enforcing its own laws related to the legalization of marijuana, but feels the need to step in when it comes to defining marriage. And let’s be honest, specifically, the U.S. Constitution includes nothing about marijuana or marriage.

However, the U.S. Constitution does state, in the 10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.”

When it comes to some social agendas, this constitutional right apparently does not matter.

Below is a pretty good takedown from the comments. If you’d like to fire off a letter to the editor, go here.

It was regarding a trans couple who had found each other. The group that posted it had tens of thousands of followers. The poster commented about how weird and fucked up it was... and was promptly eviscerated by easily 90% of their own followers (many of whom became former followers as a result).

2014 is treating us very well so far. May it continue.

Meanwhile he mentions nothing about the actual people who are affected negatively by this crap, whose relationships are put and kept into a second-class status (actually NO STATUS) by them.

What a dick.
