Allen and homophobia

No, he's not said anything homophobic as far as I know. What I'm talking about is certain DU posts comparing the case (where one of his daughters said he sexually abused her when she was a kid) to homophobia.

Regardless of how you feel about the man, I think that comparison is terribly inappropriate. However, I am having trouble articulating why it bothers me so much. I don't think that a wealthy, straight guy being called "creepy" can be compared to homophobia, but apparently others on this site do.

Any help?

not about whether one thinks he is guilty either. the comparison just seems wrong to me.

It left a really bad taste in my mouth. I mean, I know straight people often want to compare bad things they go through to homophobia to make it seem legitimate, but.... I don't know. It just seems like they're exploiting the oppression we go through to make a cheap point.

It is easy to create conjecture about various triggers when the outcome is already known. The comparison is a gaffe IMO.

Then there was the whole "heterophobia" bullshit, and watching actual threads about homophobia get passed by.

It's very clear that they don't understand the nature of homophobia when they say things like that. I wish they would listen instead of saying ignorant things like that.

After all, I'm perfectly normal even though I'm not straight. Letting them say "straight" is the only "normal" isn't right.
