THE gay minister whose appointment to an Aberdeen church that sparked a major row that threatened to split the Church of Scotland has said that the now hoped the Kirk would reconsider its position on same-sex marraige.
Rev Scott Rennie voiced his hopes the day after the General Assembly voted to move forward with plans to allow the ordination of openly gay ministers in civil partnerships...
... Mr Rennie, 42, sparked the ongoing row in the Kirk when he was appointed as minister of Queens Cross Church in 2009, prompting protests from traditionalists, who claimed that allowing gay ordination was departing from scriptural truth.
Since the row began 13 parish ministers from the Kirks 1,389 congregations have left over the issue - prompting further legal wrangles over the ownership of church properties and assets.
