Related: About this forumTexas State Rep. Bryan Hughes On CNN's Anderson Cooper 360: Being Gay Is A 'Mistake' You Can Fix
Texas state Rep. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) went on Anderson Cooper's show, AC360, in order to defend Texas Republicans' support for a gay "cure." Things didn't go so smoothly for him.
Hughes tried to defend Republicans' support for gay conversion arguing there exists plenty of medical support for such procedure. (There doesn't.) Cooper called Hughes out on this lie and began to list all the medical organizations that condemn any such attempt as abusive and harmful.
"I could give you a list," Cooper told Hughes. "The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Counseling Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American School Counselors' Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, National Association of Social Workers. They represent half a million mental health professionals, they all say [being gay] is not a mental disorder. It's not something that needs to be cured."
Cooper then went on to show Hughes a clip of the former president of the largest "ex-gay" group that claimed to be able to change people's sexuality. The group dismantled after recognizing being gay is not a choice. But Hughes was not convinced.

...may or may not be something you can fix.
Being a stupid, Republican state representative is something that other people can, and should, fix for you.

(49 posts)7. Why are so many elected politicians in Texas just plain stupid?
I'd really like to know who goes to the polls and votes.
Doesn't seem like there's been a majority of intelligent voters for about 20-30 years. (When was Bush elected Governor?)
