Yes, Foster lost to that good ol' Christian school teacher who supports discrimination against LGBTs and opposes the expansion of Medicaid eligibility. Praise be!

LANSING, MI — A business coalition urging lawmakers to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation remains optimistic despite this week's primary loss of a Republican lawmaker who has been out front in his support for the push.

State Rep. Frank Foster of Petoskey lost his 107th District primary to Christian school teacher Lee Chatfield of Evering, who had criticized the incumbent for backing an update to the state’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include LGBT protections.

Chatfield also knocked Foster for his votes to expand Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act and authorize continued implementation of Common Core education standards, which many conservatives and tea party groups opposed.

“I don’t think you can look at Frank’s primary as a referendum on Elliott-Larsen,” said Jim Murray, president of AT&T Michigan and co-chair of the Michigan Competitive Workforce Coalition, which is calling for an amendment to the civil rights law....
