American who helped craft Uganda’s ‘Kill the Gays’ bill to be tried for crimes against humanity

The First Circuit Court of Appeals has denied Pastor Scott Lively’s petition to have a crimes against humanity lawsuit against him dropped.

The anti-gay pastor will stand trial in a federal court in Massachusetts for his part in crafting Uganda’s notorious Anti-Homosexuality Act, popularly known as the “Kill the Gays” bill. The bill was largely the product of a workshop held in Uganda by Lively and two other american anti-gay activists, focused on “how to make gay people straight, how gay men often sodomized teenage boys and how ‘the gay movement is an evil institution’ whose goal is ‘to defeat the marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity.”

In spite of the pending suit and national condemnation for his actions, Lively has not backed down. Earlier this week, during an appearance on “Trunews,” he stated that homosexuality was worse than mass murder, because it was to blame for Noah’s flood.

Have a 'form' of Messiah Complex.

A messiah complex (also known as the Christ complex or savior complex) is a state of mind in which an individual holds a belief that they are, or are destined to become, a savior. The term "messiah complex" is not addressed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), but symptoms of the disorder closely resemble those found in individuals suffering from grandiose delusions (GD) or delusions of grandeur. This form of delusional belief is most often reported in patients suffering from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Little is known about the disorder, but it is believed that as many as 10% of the population may hold similar beliefs in one form or another, though not significant enough to warrant a diagnosis.[1] Examples include Jim Jones, David Koresh[2] and Imran Khan.[3][4][5]

We have a two tier justice system.

We have an atrociously cruel penal system.

The decisions of the Supreme Court are not sound in law.

President Obama continues to appoint the most anti Democratic people.

Our news media are bought and paid for TV personalities.

The rule of law does NOT apply to everyone.

There is so much shit wrong we will never get rid of the stench.

And nothing personal, Elmer, but your post pushed me to finally speak up.

I have a good friend who grew up with Scott Lively, and this is what I've been told. Since this friend never speaks publicly about this, I've not felt comfortable repeating it, even in this somewhat anonymous environment. But I think those calling for retribution need to understand some of the background. It certainly doesn't excuse Lively's actions or words, but it might help explain them. This is not *just* a hateful human being hell-bent on destroying people who don't think like him. This is someone who has suffered more than a lot of us can ever understand.

My friend and Lively spent the bulk of their childhoods together. If you read the various bios on Lively, he repeatedly mentions growing up in a troubled home, which led to his being an alcoholic by the age of twelve. (See, eg, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Lively.) Though he has been accused of being an unrepentant liar, this much is true. He also claims that his father succumbed to mental illness and was locked up when Scott was 16. Somewhat true, or perhaps true in Scott's definition of mental illness. The fact is, Scott and his siblings spent their childhoods being physically, emotionally, and sexually assaulted by their father. Their mother, their extended family, and the community apparently suspected or knew to some degree, but none provided much help. These were children left at the mercy of a monster, and they all coped as best they could. One of the siblings, if I recall correctly, eventually committed suicide. At least two turned to religion. Most turned to drugs or alcohol. Despite this, most of them managed to put together some sort of functional adult life. But from what I understand, the ones whose lives are closest to normal and healthy were able to achieves this only after extensive therapy. Scott obviously chose another route.

I find it very telling that, while he openly discusses his "difficult childhood," nowhere can I find any mention of him claiming to have been sexually abused. But I have complete confidence that what my friend has told me is true. My friend has the scars to prove it.

As I said earlier, this doesn't excuse what Lively has done. His words and actions are reprehensible and he definitely needs to be held accountable. But to those who say they hope he "gets a taste of his own medicine," I have to say, he already has.

then had to run from a large mob throwing molotovs and concrete blocks at his head? Has he been hung and tortured by an angry mob? No? Well, he hasn't had a taste of his own medicine yet. Those are the types of things that happen to gay people in countries with harsh penalties for gay people. Those countries that have been visited and taught that vicious version of Christianity by people like him do those types of things to gay people. They WANT gay people stoned to death and necklaced.

I, personally, would not want anything like that type of torture and summary lynching done to ANYONE, but when it comes to a taste of his own medicine, those are the types of things countries that have anti-gay laws like those do.

But the comments are moderated, so when I went back today to see if there was a discussion, there was nothing there.
