When it comes to gay marriage, Omaha is out of step with the rest of Nebraska.

And when it comes to the rest of Nebraska, the state is out of step with national polls that show a growing acceptance of same-sex marriages.

A majority of Nebraskans — 54 percent — oppose the legalization of gay marriage in the state, according to a World-Herald statewide poll.

In Omaha, however, more people supported than opposed gay marriage: 46 percent in support, 41 percent opposed.

The basis of all bigotry is fear and unfamiliarity.

You are Black, well that makes me uncomfortable because I am not and I dont know any Black people...

You are Gay, well that makes me uncomfortable because I am not and I dont know any Gay people...

This is also a good reason for gay people to come out. Lots of straight people actually do think that they "don't know any gay people."
