Texas Lawmaker Wants To Throw Transgender People in Jail for Using Public Restrooms

A Texas state legislator has filed a bill that would make it a crime for transgender people to use public restrooms according to their gender identity.

The proposal from GOP Rep. Debbie Riddle (R) would make it a class-A misdemeanor — punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum $4,000 fine — for transgender people to use "a locker room, shower facility, or toilet facility designated for use by persons of a gender that is not the same gender as the individual’s gender."

Riddle's HB 1748 would also make it a state jail felony — punishable by up to two years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine — for a building manager to "repeatedly allow" a transgender person to use such a facility according to their gender identity.

Here's how the bill defines gender:

They are trying to write into the law that if you are transgender you should be beaten, thrown in jail, treated like filth

how are the potty police going to know what someone's biological gender is when they're using a restroom? Are they going to be watching people go to the bathroom? It's not only bigoted, it's a ridiculous invasion of privacy. Everybody's. Every day I find at least one new reason to hate GOP legislators.

Was bullied when she used the mens room because she looked like a girl. When she transitioned and used the girls room, she was bullied for using that restroom

snidely suggested that we do chromosomal testing on kids when they begin school and then brand results of the test on the children's forearms so they are marked for life. It's a shock that Rep. Riddle didn't think of that and include it in her bill.

I am still upset about the girl in Utah (I think it was Utah) that the entire world went after. I hope she is ok. I hope that she is finally being left alone.

Remember, Fox news was the only media outlet that refused to retract a lie about her. Every other publication either deleted the story, put a retraction up or both. But not fox.

Just a horror

Just as Jim Crow was the last ditch attempt to control, dehumanize, and abuse minorities in society, those bigots are flexing their ever diminishing power through the same types of laws.. that will ultimately fail and be their future embarrassment. These laws are born of desperation on their part in an war they are losing ground on.

These measures disgust me to my core.. but at the same time, I realize it for what it is.. the death throes of their cause to marginalize, criminalize, and dehumanize us.

Not only is this bill horribly bigoted and almost impossible to enforce, it screws over inter-sexed individuals in the worst possible way.

Sooner or later some CAIS woman or de la Chapelle syndrome male is going to get caught up in this. Can't these idiots take a basic genetics class before coming up with this hatefilled shit?
