Black Pastor Goes Off On Reporter Who Suggested That LGBT People Have Civil Rights, Too

Rev. Bill Owens, President of CAAP (Coalition of African-American Pastors). He has previously protested the endorsements of the NAACP and President Obama for same-sex marriage and is claiming that homosexuals have hijacked the civil rights movement.

Sorry that there is no transcript, but this video was just posted on LoneStarQ. I'll update the OP when more information is posted.

Cross-posted in the Texas Group.

"So when black people today tell me that they don't believe in gay marriage... the first thing that I say is 'Please don't let anybody try to get you to vote against your own best interest by feeding you messages of hate.' Then I say 'you know people used to say stuff like that about you and your love.'"

"We can't say we believe in each other's fundamental humanity and then turn a blind eye to the reality of each other's existence and the truth of each other's hearts," Washington pointed out. "As long as anyone anywhere is being made to feel less human, our very definition of humanity is at stake and we are all vulnerable."

That he is black.. irrelevant.

That he is yet another religious asshole is the meat an potatoes of the story imo.

We have white supporters, we have white haters. we have black supporters.. we have black haters.. we have <insert any other group, race, ethnicity etc..> supporters and the same for haters.

Hell even within our own persecuted community we have no shortage of haters. I've heard gay men make horrendous references to Lesbians, Transsexuals, and every other sub group... I've met gay men who hate and say hateful things of "bears", or "twinks" etc... I've known lesbians who are disgusted and say hateful things about gay men...

You know, when I really think about it, the only sub-community within our greater GLBT community that I don't think I've ever heard hateful comments out of (other than as part of a comedy routine) is from within our Transsexual sub community.. But I'm sure there are exceptions to that somewhere out there as well. Whatever the traits of the person is irrelevant, it's what's said or done that matters imo, and when statements like this headline go out of the way to mention the irrelevant portion of the person, it detracts from the actual message of hate.
