Ok let's try to make this into something productive....

Many of you may be aware of the issues that have happened in LGBT today as well as the perpetual shit storm that is H&M. So, I think it's time that everyone take a good hard look at the posts in the relevant threads and update our jury blacklists as appropriate. The jury blacklist allows you to keep people who you think will not treat you fairly from sitting on a jury for any of your posts.

Do NOT post names of people. Do NOT insinuate names of people. Just do it for yourself.

Here's how:

Click on the "My Account" link on the top right hand corner of the page and click on the "Jury Blacklist" tab. Use the search function to find and add your least favorite DUers to it.

Star members can add up to 15 names. Non-star members can add 5.

I've updated mine. Enjoy!

Maybe there should be website system variables that you can add where you would block "LGBT Banned Members" from your jury pool as one of your choices. It really doesnt make sense that anyone banned from here should be on the jury of a post from here. That goes for any group, feminism, Jewish forum, etc.

It would be great if we could add "LGBT Banned Members" to our ignore lists too. Boy would that solve a lot of problems, with one person in particular.

I just remembered, for groups AND forums you can find a list of the blocked people for each group on the "About this Group" page of the group... way at the bottom.

For LGBT for instance: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=about&forum=1137

You can block them from serving if you have them on your jury blacklist... not just if you have them on ignore.

Blocking and blacklist are different? There is a jury blacklist then that extends beyond the blocking of posters?

I am just trying to clarify. Thanks for helping, BTW.

Blocking: There are two kinds: "Full Ignore" / "Block mail"

--Block mail: Selecting this option prevents another member from sending DU Mail messages to your inbox. If they try to send you a DU Mail message, they will be informed that your inbox is unavailable. You may use this option on an unlimited number of members.

--Full Ignore: Selecting this option prevents you from seeing another member. While logged in, you will not be able to see any of their posts or replies to their posts. This option includes Block Mail -- whether you are logged in or not, the member will not be able to send you DU Mail messages. You may use this option on an unlimited number of members.

Both of these functions are available by clicking on the "My Account" link at the top right hand corner of the page. And then clicking on the "Ignore" tab.

PURPOSE: The purpose of these two functions is to limit your contact with certain members that you don't want to be able to talk to you and/or you don't want to see posts from at all.

IN TERMS OF JURIES: These have only one involvement with juries. If you have put someone on "Ignore" then YOU will not be able to be on THEIR posts' juries. (If they have YOU on their ignore lists then THEY won't be able to be on juries for YOUR posts.) The function is just an extension of the fact that you (or they) don't want contact with a given person and therefore you won't have anything to do with their posts in a jury.

JURY BLACKLIST: This is an entirely different feature. It is located in "My Account" as well but under the "Jury Blacklist" tab. The purpose of the jury blacklist is so that you can list specific DUers you don't want to be on a jury for your posts. Usually you'll put people on this list if you think that (based on arguments you've had with them, points of view they've voiced, etc.) they will be a biased juror. Free members of DU get 5 people they can list on the black list at any one time (they can be changed at will). Paid members are allotted 15 slots to fill.

IN SHORT: The difference is that if you "ignore" someone then you can't be on their juries. If you Jury Blacklist someone, they can't be on yours. However, if they "ignore" you and you haven't "ignored" them, then they can't be on your juries.

I hope that helps!

I am irritated that dbackjon's OP got hidden even though we argued a bit in his OP and the conflagration that erupted from closeupready's post in Meta was uncalled for since it was pretty obvious that he did not intend anything mean by it. I would start an OP in Meta complaining about it all, but I dont have the energy to fight another battle in Meta right now.
