Important Actions (newest first)

3/23/2012 Sen.
Failed to pass pursuant to Senate Joint Resolution 1820

February 23, 2012 - Introduced by Senator Grothman, cosponsored by
Representative Pridemore. Referred to Committee on Public Health, Human

1 An Act to amend 48.982 (2) (g) 2., 48.982 (2) (g) 4. and 48.982 (2) (gm) of the
2 statutes; relating to: requiring the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board
3 to emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and
4 neglect.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Under current law, the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board (CANPB)
conducts various activities relating to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Those activities include all of the following:

1. Awarding grants for child abuse and neglect prevention programs that
promote public awareness of the need for child abuse and neglect prevention and that
provide community-based education and services for parents, children, and
families.

2. Awarding grants to family resource centers that provide parenting education
and referrals to other social services programs.

3. Administering statewide projects for the prevention of child abuse and
neglect.

4. In cooperation with the Department of Children and Families and the
Department of Public Instruction, promoting statewide educational and public
awareness campaigns and materials for the purpose of developing public awareness
of the problems of child abuse and neglect and disseminating information about the
problems of, and methods of preventing, child abuse and neglect to the public and to
organizations concerned with those problems.

5. Providing, for use in its statewide projects and for use by organizations that
receive grants from the CANPB, educational and public awareness materials and
programming that emphasize the role of fathers in the primary prevention of child
abuse and neglect.

This bill requires the CANPB, in conducting those activities, to emphasize
nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Anyway, it is another example of the Republicans' War on Women, since the majority of single-parents are women.

As a single mom (my daughter is now an adult), I find this extremely offensive and absolutely disgusting. How about the company I work for that forced me to work all sorts of insane hours in order to keep my job, supervisor knowing I was a single mom and not caring at all? THAT could have been "a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect" had I not nearly killed myself making arrangements and driving around like a crazy person. That just makes me sick. No war on women? Give me a break!

I am a single mother and it's like pulling teeth just to work out a schedule sometimes at work. I'll make a dental appointment several months in advance, only to be informed at the last minute that my request for time off has been revoked (not denied, since it was previously approved but revoked) and that I'll have to work. That goes for any number of other instances, even though I have a nice chunk of time on the books for vacation and for sick that could be used.

OTOH, there is one single father where I work and they bend over backwards doing whatever he needs or wants. He's always shocked that I'll be denied and then yelled at while they give him what he wants, even if the request is the day of.
