Missouri police officer is still employable after numerous allegations of raping and drugging women
by Walter Einenkel
The story of Officer Steve Blakeney is pretty terrible and insane:
The reports say Blakeney attended the St. Louis Police Academy and was dismissed October 2, 2002 for sexual harassment.
In 2003, he enrolled in Eastern Missouri Police Academy in St. Peters. There detectives found Blakeney was on probation for numerous infractions, including gawking at females when told to stop and
lies he told the director
It gets worse:
Blakeney was also accused by a 21-year-old woman of "forcible rape" in 2012; and as far back as 2006, TheFreeThought.com reports an 18-year-old female claimed he gave her a pill and she awoke to find his "hands down her pants" while on the stage at a bar he then managed.
And more recently:
In fall 2014, Blakeney was outside The Flamingo, a downtown St. Louis bar when a woman claimed that Blakeney tried to talk her into getting in his car. She refused. She alleges Blakeney punched her and her male friend in the mouth. Blakeney again denied the allegations. No charges have been filed.
He's been a top cop in Pine Lawn for a few years now. He's suing because he just got fired.
Pine lawn officials said Steve Blakeney was fired because he paid overtime to an officer to pick up two women who allegedly passed out at his home.
The problem, besides this potential creep falling through the cracks all these years, is that he still has a police license. He can still be employed as a law enforcement officer:
Goldman says P.O.S.T., which stands for Police Officer Standards and Training, could`ve denied Blakeney his police license, but he said P.O.S.T. must follow a strict statute, only denying or revoking a license to someone who has committed a crime or violated moral turpitude. ...
The problem is the legislature
doesn't really fund it. There was only one investigator for the entire state. I believe it`s up to two, Goldman said.
Two investigators currently oversee about 700 Missouri police departments.
The fact that he still has a P.O.S.T. certificate means that he is still very employable, and seeing the history of hiring practices in law enforcement around our country, probably employable in the near future.
