Warren slams Senators over Planned Parenthood defunding - VIDEO
In a closer vote than anyone had expected, Democrats in the Senate narrowly defeated the first big Tea Party push to defund Planned Parenthood last night.
Before the vote was cast, Elizabeth Warren had some choice words for the Republicans who are using the deceptive undercover videos released by a shady right-wing front group as cover to take away women's access to health care:
"Do you have any idea what year it is?" Warren asked. "Did you fall down, hit your head, and think you woke up in the 1950's or the 1890's? Should we call for a doctor? Because I simply cannot believe that in the year 2015, the United States Senate would be spending its time trying to defund women's health care centers.
You know, on second thought, maybe I shouldn't be that surprised. The Republicans have had a plan for years to strip away women's rights to make choices over our own bodies."
Sen. Warren is 100% right. Republicans have always been clear about their animosity toward people and organizations that make it easier for women to get the health care they need. They've gone after the Affordable Care Act countless times over its free contraception mandate -- and, in GOP controlled states, they've passed hundreds of new abortion restrictions in just the past few years.
Now, Republicans are trying to deal a death blow, once and for all, to the organization they see as their #1 enemy on reproductive rights -- and it is up to us to stop them.
Elizabeth Warren's 7-minute speech defending Planned Parenthood on the Senate floor is a real barnburner -- in the last 20 hours, it has more than 600,000 views on Facebook.
