I can remember years ago my Dr. would often ask that I pee into a cup. I haven't been asked to do that in years, I wonder why. I always get asked to do blood work, would that replace the pee into a cup testing?

(8,377 posts)I have taken a big multiple vitamin for years, so I have never been able to isolate which vitamin (or mineral) causes that. I assume it is one of the water soluble vitamins.

(8,377 posts)I take the same dosage every day: B1 23 mg, B2 26 mg, b6 30 mg, b12 100 mcg
Most days the color is very pale, but about once in 2 weeks it is super bright yellow, I don't think my pattern of water intake varies that much, but maybe it is the timing related to when I eat meals.

(2,453 posts)On your water intake in relation to when you take the vitamins. You probably notice that higher levels of b vitamins will turn urine a very bright (almost fluorescent) yellow.

(10,303 posts)But it is good for a quick easy test that doesn't require extensive lab work. You're quite likely to be asked for a urine specimen at the urologist.
Testing blood gets better results, and tests for things you don't see in your pee. With a large centralized lab, it's easy enough to get tests done quickly and cheaply. My wife is a clinical lab tech in a centralized lab... she complains sometimes about the specimens coming in late from DC... we're in Greensboro, NC. Some larger doctors practices have their own mini lab, where routine tests are performed and results are available in minutes.

(40,656 posts)as you lose weight, cut back on the ounces. You will be surprised how much faster things work including your brain. Humans are chronically dehydrated and no, anything but water doesn't count.

(2,529 posts)It's always been a popular prank, especially in health affiliated schools that teach lab and pharmacy techs. I've never had it pulled on me, but I've heard annoyed docs complaining about panicked kids making a rush on the ER after voiding intense blue urine.

(5,105 posts)I love asparagus. Couple years back, during asparagus season, I was standing at a urinal after dinner and the smell was so strong the guy next to me noticed.
At least he wasn't casting asparagus.
