finally got some relief from agonizing pain in leg

After 6 weeks, 2 doctors, 1 Pain Management clinic, last week got acupuncture.

After the acupuncture, I finally have pain reduction, still have pain, but no longer is every step excrutiating.
I also have been taking turmeric, so that may also be helping.
I am able to walk a bit more.

today go for 2nd acupuncture, hope the improvement continues. I am really bummed that I missed the entire month of April - my favorite month of the year. And had to curtail my gardening.

but hopeful that I am the way to being able to live my life as I used to.

I took that for a couple of weeks.
Ibufrofen can cause live/kidney damage, so I was glad to stop that and use turmeric.

Could be Lyme.
Reason for that is bec. I had Lyme before and the exhaustion that I've had is typical of Lyme.
otoh, I don't think that Lyme would be relieved by acupuncture.

so a long story as to the other thing I think caused it. but short story is I had various pain in that leg over a couple of years, not so bad.
which I ignored.
which I much regret.

i have a couple damaged nerves that bother me no matter what, but i recently got my sleep straightened out and couldnt believe the difference.
my fibro is in almost complete remission.
sleep trouble really messes with your brain. pain is in the brain.

18. Mopinko, How did they diagnosis nerve damage? What kind of doctor?

I really need a medical detective, I wish there were yellow pages for that.
Yesterday I felt better than in a long time. I walked a little bit with someone, just to walk. I haven't walked except when I absolutely needed to, for 7 weeks!

then I came home and my pain was back and today the pain was back. And I am so bummed. It's worse to feel better, and I was thinking, oh, maybe I'll be able to garden after all, and such. And now I'm back where I was, pain-wise, plus mentally I'm extremely depressed, discouraged.

I think it must be nerve, or tendon, or muscle - since it keeps moving to different parts of my leg, and since the nature of the pain changes.

I think tomorrow I'm going to go to a doctor I trust and ask him what kind of doctor I should see. I haven't gone to him so far, cuz he doesn't take insurance.

oh your question re sleep - I sleep terribly. Usually. If I get 4 hours straight sleep that's a good nite's sleep for me. Last night I didn't sleep at all. Watched tv til about 2 am, I know I dozed off for 15 minute interval, but then got into bed, and lust laid there, wide awake.

that's wonderful that your fibro is almost in complete remission.

19. i had 2 discs herniate
Wed May 7, 2014, 03:50 PM
May 2014

it was preeeetty obvious.
also had several emg's, which they require for surgery.
also have raging carpal tunnel. see a hand doc soon, but we already know things are fucked up upstream too. physiatrist will be next up after that, i am sure. already have one, as i have a couple more puffy discs, and got one steroid injection so far.

but pain jumping around is a fibro thing, as is the ease of causing sore muscles. your muscles are all cramped up. the pain usually emanates from the spot where the tendon connects to the muscle. so it is near the joint, but not quite in the joint.

i went through a lot of docs. in fact, it was warpy who told me what i had.
rheumatologists usually are the ones to treat fibro, since it is common in people with autoimmunes, and cuz they are pain specialists.

was it obvious when the disc herniate?

I don't know what that means, sounds like something painful.

so at the time your discs herniated - that was obvious, cuz you were in a lot of pain?

I have to check my x-ray report, I think they said I had a herniated disc, not sure. I know they said I had some arthritis of the spine,
but they said that was nothing to worry about, that most people my age -66- have that.

thanks. hope you don't mind the questions. I will look up fibromyalgia, I know it is about Pain. I didn't know one could be in remission as you are.

i had stuff all my life, but got really sick after that. had a real hard time functioning the last 12 years.

when my disc went out it woke me up in the middle of the night and got me out the door to the er in about 10 seconds. i had to have a double fusion. vicodin by the bottle till i got in for surgery. no real explanation for the downstream stuff, it should have gone away.
and it is continuing to get worse. so, it was/is more than that.

but you can have small herniations that cause little or no trouble.

the nerve bundle and they will go in and free the nerve from impediments. Mostly cleaning bone spurs and if I'm really unlucky, they will remove one of the bones and stabilize with with titanium pins. I'm hoping to be good lucky.

Thanks for your good wishes and may you be free of pain always.

which is why they try everything else first. You might not be pain free afterward, but it will be the type of pain that responds well to drugs and you will be functional.

Just go with the statistics: even if it isn't perfect (you wake up in recovery and scare people by doing a jig next to the gurney) it is going to be markedly better.

the traditional medical doctors who gave her zero for pain relief medication. She tried special exercises, hot/cold baths, chiropractor and finally acupuncture. Her first session helped...but little by little after each new session the relief lasted longer and longer until she became pain free. This was almost a year ago and she's still ok. Hope you have the same success....keep us posted please!

I wasn't sure if acupuncture was the thing to do. I've had acupuncture for insomnia, things like that.
But this pain, which was turning my life upside down, I didn't know.
But nothing else had worked.
So I am guardedly hopeful.

glad your daughter had such good result.

hope I do too.

because previously even if I got a ride right to the door - I didn't think I could manage to walk to the room location.

yes!
so tonite is a teach-in, which had been previously scheduled, and now it is a celebration. These students sat-in at the president's office. way to go.

I just had a lumpectomy and a double breast lift and I am in PAIN, one month after the surgery. I just called an Asian Wellness Center near my house and asked what they suggested (they do all different kinds of massage, acupuncture and acupressure) and when I describe my pain (muscular under the skin of my upper chest and hypersensitivity, probably due to my nerves), she quickly answered, "Massage won't help you but acupuncture will."

I have my first visit on May 18th and am so happy that you shared your experience. I hope you find relief soon.

It's kinda pricey, I think, but does work for some ailments. They're kinda like pace-makers that trick the brain into not feeling pain. My mom had one put in for sciatica, and it seemed to really help her sleep. When the pain started up in the other leg, they just programmed the thing to help it, too.
