Anybody have or had Baker's cyst?

At the same time as I was diagnosed with the torn meniscus, I was diagnosed with Baker's cyst - behind my knee.
My doctor said it resulted from inflammation which caused fluid to accumulate. He said it would reabsorb.
Well, it's been 3 months, and it has not reabsorbed.

I get physical therapy for the torn meniscus, and I asked the therapist and she said the same thing.

I'm unsatisfied with the information I got so far.
Would like to know from anyone who has it, if you know what caused it, what treatment you had, and how long it lasted.

thanks,

1. I assume the physician you saw was an orthopedist. There is no set time.

You could always ask for a cortisone shot to see if that helps. It is a very localized shot right in the area of inflammation. The physician has to hit the right spot. If it continues to hurt you might try gentle physical therapy and a compression wrap. You might need to have the fluid drained by the doctor if you cannot function.

A second opinion might be useful. I assume you have had the appropriate work up, XRays or perhaps an MRI.

A bakers cyst is right behind the knee as your doctor said, it can take some time to heal.

You need to discuss these things with your doctor

Good luck

and you will never believe from what.. from kicking back his recliner.. so take a look at whatever repetitive motion you are doing, and it is usually one you probably did not even consider.. But if you feel you have done everything you can.. most assuredly seek a second opinion..

Your doctor is correct, they do take time to absorb.

The cause was unknown...

Kept my leg on pillows so the knee was bent a bit, and kept it iced as much as possible. It took about a month to completely go away.

Takes time to go away, Dr. should not have given time frame for it to go away.. will probably depend a lot on swelling from the tear also...

from my research knee injury, arthritis can cause it, both of which I have.

some people find ice helps, which I'm going to try.

and patience, and staying with the physical therapy...

I didn't know I had one until it ruptured;causing extreme swelling and pain and requiring crutches.. the pain disappeared after the fluid was absorbed in the leg,, but it took several weeks for it all to get back to normal. The pain was severe. My doctor gave me pain medication and reccomended ice packs and tight bandages. You have my sympathy.
