Drug 'melts away' fat inside arteries

A new drug being trialled for treating breast cancer and diabetes has been shown to 'melt away' the fat inside arteries that can cause heart attacks and strokes.

Researchers from the University of Aberdeen, using pre-clinical mouse models, showed that just a single dose of the drug (Trodusquemine) completely reversed the effects of a disease that causes a host of heart problems.

Atherosclerosis is the build-up of fatty material inside the arteries.

Over time this fatty material can grow bigger until your arteries become so narrow that not enough blood can pass through.

Many great discoveries end up killing you in a different way.

Other than that - yay!

Listening to those drug commercials is a real hoot. "Will get rid of your x-problem but kill your liver."

I bet they'll be at least as spectacular as the melting away of the arterial fat.

6. A vegan diet also melts away fat in the arteries. Safely.

Renowned heart surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr. wrote the book on the subject. He has the angiograms to prove it, too. Check out his book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease.

I think I'd prefer a safe, proven diet to some new drug that lawyers are going to be making a fortune on when the long-term side effects start showing up.

"Trodusquemine has already been trialed for treatment of diabetes and breast cancer but this is the first time it has been used in models of atherosclerosis."

I'd like to know how the melted fat is eliminated from the body.

took some getting used to as I and my wife were an egg or two each morning with various sides such as hash browns, bacon, etc. Understand it will clean out the pipes too.
