(8,203 posts)I don't know what brand he got, but if you google essential tremor spoon you'll find some options.
I'm sorry you're going through this. It wasn't easy for him--but he was still able to do a lot of what he loved, including playing piano professionally.

(11,909 posts)I was prescribed propranolol. Have you heard of the Int'l. Essential Tremor Foundation? They can send you a free packet of information (see bottom right link on front page), and they have tips for coping. Studies are being done to find a new treatment, as current medications prescribed are "off-label".

(11,885 posts)To see a top doctor in a special movement clinic run by a major health provider near me. They specialize in these types of movement disorders , and I had someone close in my family also has it too. Many issues they look at are Dementia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and many others lesser known ones. Hope you get the answers you're looking for.
I was prescribed Propranolol and Gabapenting (as needed). They don't work perfectly, but without them, I'm a shaky mess. Check out IETF, as a previous poster mentioned. They also have a support group on facebook where many people share experiences and coping strategies.

(195 posts)but I teach painting classes, so it is critical that I'm as tremor free as possible. Another thing that helps is a small amount of alcohol, but it's dangerous to get in the habit of self medicating that way too much. I saw my grandfather turn into a total alcoholic trying to manage it that way, which coincidentally, makes the condition worse if taken to extreme. Best of luck in finding the treatment that works best for you.
