Related: About this forumDoes anyone here take fish oil?
If so, got any recommendations on a brand that is high quality and that won't require a second mortgage? Not tasting fish all day would also be a nice bonus.

(354 posts)Fish liver oil, comes in a capsule, and don't taste like fish.

(3,333 posts)The latest studies I've come across suggest that there are no benefits to these oils. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

(5,442 posts)I've had several bouts of recurrent corneal erosion. My eyes dried out so severely as I slept that my eyelids stuck to my corneas and scratched them when I woke up. Very painful and resulted in double vision. The ophthamologist said that fish oil would prevent it. That was 15 years ago, and he was right. The benefits to my skin, joints, brain, and its anti-inflammatory properties have been excellent. I take a 1000 mg capsule twice a day.

(937 posts)The purported cardiac benefits of fish oil were not confirmed by the data in the massive study published by the Cochrane Library. With the publication of this study last year, many people quit their fish oil supplements. Then they started to notice their joints (skeletal, not weed) were bothering them more. So fish oil can help joint pain in some people? Also may help a little with reducing triglycerides and increasing HDL (good cholesterol) We use NatureMade burp less fish oil from Costco.

(60,010 posts)she's pretty conservative, so I was surprised. She also mentioned tumeric for inflammation ( I use Cat's Claw, tho)
I keep the fish oil tablets in the fridge and keep forgetting to take them. but now that achy joints has been mentioned, that is a good motivator.

(47,485 posts)Spouse met with someone from the health insurance to review supplements and was told that all of these supplements do not contain what they claim.
We used to have Krill from COSTCO but realized that this is the only food that fish at the deep water eat, so decided not to be part of this destruction.
We eat salmon and cod.

Wonder whether the omega 3 stays throughout the cooking, or in the chicken...

(16,317 posts)The problem with a lot of olive oils is adulteration, as you prob know, and it can go rancid fairly quickly. I wish almond and avocado oil wasn't so expensive.
I read a couple really good (science based) articles recently about fats, the problem isn't canola or soybean oil per se, but the omega 3 to 6 ratio if efed up, which is why it's pretty important to add omega 3 to ones diet. Americans get 60% of their non animal fat from soybean oil, and that's not good.
