Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) was ordered to pay more than $1.1 billion by a judge after an Arkansas jury found the companys officials misled doctors and patients about the risks of the antipsychotic drug Risperdal.

The important take away from this story is that Johnson and Johnson:
"hid Risperdals risks and tricked Medicaid regulators into paying more than they should have for the medicine."
plus
"deceptively marketed the drug as safer and better than competing medicines. "
AND
"marketed the drug for unapproved uses, including various symptoms in children and the elderly
after being warned by federal authorities to halt such sales."

I believe that it is the S. C. Johnson Company (a maker of cleaning products) that touts itself as "a family company," not J&J.
