Researchers at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute have come up with a doozy involving a miraculous flip-side for some boner pills.
Really:
It turns out Cialis, a.k.a. Tadalafil, might also help reverse the effects of a certain type of muscular dystrophy, a disease that results in muscles wasting away.
According to a Cedars statement:
Tadalafil, commonly known by brand names Cialis and Adcirca, reversed the effects of a biochemical chain of events that in Becker muscular dystrophy deprives muscles of an important chemical, nitric oxide, which normally tells blood vessels to relax during exercise, increasing blood flow and oxygenation. The study, which looked at nine patients and found improvement in eight of them, was published recently in the journal Science Translational Medicine. With a single dose, the drug, which works downstream from nitric oxide, fully restored proper blood flow in eight of nine patients in the study ...

(36,286 posts)It's true that some young men use the pills to enhance an already active sex life, just as some women use plastic surgery to enlarge healthy breasts. But if you've had a prostatectomy due to cancer, those pills are the difference between ever having sex again and not ever having sex again. Some men in this situation are only in their early to mid 50's, but is anyone here willing to say that older men shouldn't be having sex? Do we make jokes about women having breast re-construction after a masectomy? If the man in your life has never needed boner pills, count yourself lucky!
And talk about rationing; our health plan announced that next year only 8 pills a month would be covered!
