How many Roku owners here?
And how many look around online for links to the private channels?
But no online links.
Got any?
I just typed in Roku channel links and found quite a few.

Even Apple TV is not portable like ROKU.
If anyone needs help traveling with it.....just reply. Roku has saved our sanity...in these times...

(29,674 posts)I'm thinking of adding Play-On. The lifetime pass right now is around $70 and it includes a Roku LT-perfect for a bedroom.
I have my shows that I really love-Doctor Who, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead-and they aren't available on network tv.Two of them are available on Netflix a month or two after the season airs and the other could be found online. (I'm sure it could.) I think it's time to cut the cable and go with an antenna and the Roku.

(146,218 posts)I got a Samsung blu-ray player instead, which I really dislike.
What I really want is something with more buffering capacity. My connection is very, very slow and my current device gives me only about 5 minutes. It's incredibly frustrating.

(29,674 posts)I've had it since January and rarely have problems. (It'll freeze but that seems to happen when I've been running it for hours on end, like listening to music. With a quick restart it's ready to go.)

(29,674 posts)It's a Roku with 6 months of Hulu Plus for about $80.00. I don't know how well it'll work with your buffering issues, though.
When I purchased mine at Radio Shack I had 30 days to return it for any reason.

That is a good deal, if someone wants to try out Roku.

(4,810 posts)Probably time for an upgrade. Private channels come and go - I haven't kept up lately. What with NF, Democracy Now, Amazon, Acorn, PBS and Hulu Plus I'm pretty full up.

(29,674 posts)I'll check every so often just to see if there's something new. Ya never know, I guess.
Have you ever tried Play-On? I'm thinking about giving it a try. Even adding that would still be cheaper than a cable bill.

(885 posts)Out of the box it's got the usual suspects (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc) to play with.
It shines in allowing you to use Hulu/Hulu Plus to stream stuff to your TV that hulu does not allow.
I also like the TV.com channel for CBS shows I like to keep up with.
For your Roku, you'll need the Playon Channel https://owner.roku.com/Add/MYPLAYON
It'll also stream to an XBOX from the media section natively.
Past that, it doesn't really show it's potential until you start playing with Plugins and scripts.

With plugins, you can stream live TV from a variety of sources.
I believe they still have the 30 day trial out there. After that it's 19.95/Yr.
Once you've actually signed up, there are many offers for "playon for life" so no need for a recurring subscription if you choose.

(29,674 posts)and have thought about it. It was about $80-a steal if it's a good product.
I might have to try the 30 day trial, per your recommendation. Thanks!

(84,711 posts)places. We are out of town now and the condo we rented had it's cable go out. But, ROKU allowed us to watch what we wanted on Netflix and News, etc., without having the Cable working. You do need to be in a place that you can access internet though. Most places in the US, Hotels, Vacation Rentals...do offer internet these days....although not if you are in wildnerness or very rural areas without internet access, though.

(8,933 posts)wish I could watch leverage from tnt, but other than that I have become accustomed to watching things at my convenience instead of working my life around the tv schedule. And my kids don't ask for as much stuff since they tend to watch netflix and youtube a lot. haven't checked private channels in awhile. we have netflix and hulu plus and put a mini computer in so we can watch regular hulu or some of the channel websites if necessary.
As for playon... it's great. but I don't have the computer power to handle it. Either that or it's my router or internet or something. I wish I did because I would be glad to pay for it I could get it to work better for me.
