I loved "Potiche"

If you don't mind subtitles but like a good movie with some social emphasis for the "common person" this one was fun for me. I selected two reviews but, I think people of a "certain age" would find this movie interesting...expecially if female but my male partner thoroughly enjoyed it too. Also loved that the aging Catherine Deneuve is incredibly enjoyable in this...she and Depardieu plus the husband...Fabrice Luchini do an outstanding job making this work.

Anyway...in this gloomy time..folks of a "certain age" and experience might find this a welcome relief...and some chuckles along with some basic humanitarian emphasis made it worth the watch for us. There's a good bit of history there, too, about women in that time which is done with a very nice touch.

Director François Ozon spins a deft social comedy of the French bourgeoisie starring some of that country's most celebrated actors, including Gérard Depardieu, Catherine Deneuve and Fabrice Luchini. After Suzanne Pujol's (Deneuve) husband has a heart attack, she must take charge of the umbrella factory he manages. The resulting clashes between the genteel Suzanne and the Marxist union boss (Depardieu) generate plenty of riotous class conflict.

09-26-12, a French comedy depicting some of the challenges that ensue, when an erstwhile trophy wife, decides to turn the tables on her rather boorish spouse, as she shocks everyone by coming to work and taking charge of the family business. Set in the era of turmoil, political conflict, and growing female empowerment of the 1970s, issues of culture, class, and spousal relations are playfully spoofed, as; Catherine Deneuve, a rather large Gérard Depardieu, and a strong supporting cast, appear to have a grand time playing with the conventions of the day. The music, costuming, and set design, readily evoke the time period, and it is all done in good fun. Light and fluffy, with plenty of humor, a bit of wit, a few surprises, and a healthy dash of feminism, I would rate this one at two fairly well done soufflés, that manage to rise to the occasion. I really enjoyed this movie when I caught it at the Florida Film Festival. It has that great spirit of change is what you make it and never count some one out. Catherine Deneuve is stunning in the film as a housewife that decides that may be that is not all that she is capable of.I enjoyed the backdrop of the 1970s with the music, fashion and attitude. This is a fun film to watch.
