(4,810 posts)Costs roughly $25 a year and well worth it. Lots of British series (they specialize).

(48,217 posts)not only from the UK but also from Canada, Australia, and Ireland. As a member, you also get free shipping and special deals on their catalog of DVDs. (They're originally a DVD publishing company based in the UK.)

(47,501 posts)and there is a 30 day trial period. $49 is a bit much for what they are offering.

(4,810 posts)and then we'll see. I'll still sign up though, they have British shows no-one else has. Sorry about that.

(47,501 posts)I'm still considering it if I can watch it on my TV. I gave my Roku away because my DVD player streams Netflix. Not sure if Acorn will work with it. I am totally addicted to British television and they have a good selection.
Have you watched I Claudius? Someone loaned me their set of DVDs a few years ago and I loved it. Have been looking to watch it again and Acorn has it.

(4,810 posts)... the first was the original in England in 1976 (I came here n '79). Then I saw it on PBS some years ago and again on Acorn. Might watch it agaqin too - 'cause it's brilliant!!
Acorn doesn't stay static though. New things are added and old ones dropped every few weeks. Been a member since they started and there's always something to watch.

(47,501 posts)You come by your British television addiction quite naturally then. I don't like to make broad generalizations, but overall I think British actors are far superior to most American actors. Obviously there are many exceptions, but I see a consistency in quality in British performances that I don't see so much here.
As for British programs, I find them more interesting and unpredictable.
So do you stream Acorn on a Roku?

(48,217 posts)for blu-ray players or smart TVs, because they'd have to design it new for each device, apparently.
If your TV allows you to plug your computer into it, though, you can watch by streaming on your computer.

I just did this last week when Comcast pulled the plug on Clear Qam. Was able to start streaming Acorn immediately on my ancient Roku.

(47,501 posts)I gave my old Roku away because my Sony DVD player streams Netflix. I never thought I'd need the Roku again, but evidently it streams a lot of things the DVD player doesn't.
