How Did I Miss Years of "The Trailer Park Boys"?

What a hilarious show. I can't believe I had never heard of this before.

Two years ago I tried watching the first episode on Netflix and just couldn't get past the first five minutes. The mockumentary feel just didn't resonate with me at the time. I originally felt they were mercilessly skewering the disadvantaged. But last month I gave it a second look because Netflix keeps recommending it to me.

If you get past the continuous cursing, substance abuse, and criminal behavior and just accept it you will actually observe some masterful comedic timing, exceptional improv, and one of the sharpest ensemble cast in television history. Long live Julian, Ricky, and Bubbles! And then there is Mr. Lehey, Randy, Trevor/Corey, Lucy, Sarah, J-Roc, Trinity. Season 2 even features a teenaged Ellen Page as a cast member.

I recently made it to Season 8 in a short time and am also looking forward to the specials and movies. Check it out and tell me what you think of it.

Shirtless Randy sported bandaids for a few episodes after him and Phil Collins were attacked in their kayaks, then after the cuts healed and they were removed he had tanned around where they had been. The bandaids were long gone, but the marks of them remained.

Bottle kids are just an accepted fact of life there. It is so random and has little plot bearing. And their nonchalance about it cracks me up every time.

The show eventually finds its legs and the characters really begin to develop. The actor who plays Bubbles (aka Cart Boy and later the Scorpion) is a break out star. He even toured with Guns 'N Roses in character in real life and played his song "Liquor and Whores" with the band in concert.

As absurd as these characters are, I hate to admit it but I knew people exactly like that when I was growing up (minus the crimes). The comedic timing that develops makes it worth your while. Season 3 slowed down for a bit and almost lost me, but they came back and got better with each progressive season.
