Anyone seen 'Lilyhammer' yet - looks good
Will be starting it tonight. Brand new content - wheeee!
Netflix blurb:
After he testifies against a Mafia boss, ex-gangster Frank Tagliano enters the witness protection program and asks to be sent to Norway. Despite the peaceful surroundings, it's not long before Frank strays from the straight and narrow.

(20,886 posts)It's a Netflix original production. Looks like Netfix is trying to be another Starz or something.
So far (first episode) it its slow and not terribly interesting. I'll give it a couple of more eps and see.

(4,810 posts)Just sat though the first ep. Don't mind the slow, but he's no Alec Guinness - and that rug - I'm sure it moved all by itself. It gets one more try.......
Wonder why they spelled it wrong?

(20,886 posts)But I have to say, the show is growing on me. I do like the way they play on stereotypes and then destroy them. I've got a couple of more episodes, so we'll see what the final verdict is.
I think they spelled it the way Frank/Johnny would have. Or maybe that is just the Americanized version.

I love this show ... very funny, quirky, dark.
Very original.
I've never been to Norway, but I would expect it to be about as un-mafia a place as there could be.
They drop in this mafia, Italian-American guy and it almost writes itself.
And Van Zandt it just perfect for the role -- especially because of his big fake hair, exaggerated crime boss character.

(20,886 posts)I'd give it three stars. It was okay, but not outstanding. I kept waiting for the punch line with the rug, or a bang up season ender. But neither came. If it goes to more seasons, I doubt if I would watch.
On the other hand, kudos to Netflix for giving us some original content.

(24,096 posts)I failed to see the appeal - but I so hate mafia/gangster types I guess that had a lot to do with it.

(28,860 posts)I just finished season 2, even better than season 1, and that was good!

(20 posts)The acting is awful. It is the same roll that "little Stevie" plays all the time.

(4,412 posts)good but I just wasn't compelled to watch it further. I'm not sure but I saw no chemistry in the
budding romance.

(146,218 posts)It's challenging in a quirky and unique way, but it makes me laugh out loud and keeps me totally engaged.
Generic Brad
(14,275 posts)It held my attention because elements were foreign but familiar in some way. Many episodes had twists and turns in the writing that kept me guessing - usually incorrectly - on how some plot lines would turn out. That is especially true in season 2.

(16,230 posts)but in spite of it's faults I find it enjoyable enough that I've watched the first two seasons and I'm looking forward to the third.
It's different and quirky, two things I really like. Most sitcoms are cut from the same mold, but this isn't.
