Has anyone else watched Portlandia?
Saw the first 3 or 4 episodes last night. It's basically sketch comedy with lots of SNL folks (Lorne Michaels producing) and fun guests.
Really hilarious and well done for the most part.
And makes great fun of the Portland culture (which is, of course, not unique to Portland).

and Portlandia is hilarious because I see those people everytime I go downtown, and they have captured us perfectly.

(146,218 posts)I wondered if people who lived there thought it was funny. The characters are such caricatures.
The episode we watched last night that had the main couple going to a restaurant and their questions about the chicken was side splitting.
I have never spent any time there, but there is some of Southern California in there as well.

(28,791 posts)and the fact that it's filmed here means I get to visit around town without leaving my house. It's a little surreal, actually.
the skit that just made me lose it this season is the Star Wars marathon. it made me pee a little..

(57,936 posts)Portlanders are a unique, self-selected breed. I think that Portlanders are born to live in Portland.
And Portlandia only begins to capture the extreme sincerity, greenness and lovableness of Portlanders. Portlanders are wholeheartedly what they are. They are people who just try a lot harder than the rest of the world.
I love the place and the people.
Spectacular roses.

(1,999 posts)I've tried living in a couple of other cities and desperately needed to come home to Portland! My husband (a Pittsburgh native) loves it here, too.

(1,999 posts)I grew up in North Portland, and there was a Safeway store in the neighborhood. Now it's the Arbor Lodge New Seasons and the customers seem straight out of Portlandia! It makes me a little sad and makes me feel old.
On the other hand, "put a bird on it" struck somewhat close to home, since I collect prim crows.
