But yes sometimes I can almost taste the single malt scotch. Or especially on a hot day a cold beer in a movie can make me thirsty. I’ve quit for almost 30 years now so it doesn’t really tempt me that much anymore. You keep up the good work yourself

When I see people in the movies or on TV drinking hard, I feel a little smug about knowing where it will eventually lead them. Been there, done that kind of thing. Regardless of what some folk believe, I don't think that alcohol improves any facet of life; it just creates illusions.

For the past year or so, my wife and I have been watching British crime dramas where the totality of life is work and pub with little room for anything else except extramarital affairs. While it looks fun from the outside I sense ruin and depression behind the scenes.

But he still jones when he sees an almost whole burning cig thrown down at the entrance to a business.

it's like they have gotten HUGE, and people in movies / TV always drinking that stuff, ugh

assistant director, rewriting team and or the cast.

people are poor otherwise but can afford expensive scotch and champagne!!!!

The manager of the theater somehow found out and came in during the movie, and walked up the aisle pointing at them saying "Hey you kids can't do that, this is a public theater..." problem was, as he leaned over to point at them a flask fell out of his inside coat pocket, which I found tremendously funny...

... wine and get into a car.

However, I do notice continuity errors with the level of liquid in a glass in certain scenes. Wine glasses magically fill back up, etc. That's kind of irksome.

I have never been to a bar for drinks so I don't understand the whole scene.

Bars, drinking are to carry a scene. Maybe, as pointed in another post, lazy writing.


Does it reflect real life? I remember when I was a 'ute, middle class neighborhood --- N.J.. Almost every house had ashtrays. Some were just for guests who might need one ( or the homeowner needing to stop furniture from catching fire.

Anyway, I haven't seen an ashtray in years. I wouldn't know where to buy on if I wanted one.


Drinking. Still available and common when visiting or having friends over. Beyond that, my favorite alcohol is gin. I have two bottles in the house. They have been there for years. One is 3/4 full. The other is unopened. I may have two or three gin and tonics this summer.


Friends serve beer and soda at gatherings.

Grandson turned 21. He and his friends will have one or two red cups of beer when gathering.

Drinking is becoming less prominent in our culture.

I don't have a TV, so I do watch DVDs. The shows Rescue Me (2004-11) was almost a Jamison ad. I Drank Jamison for awhile. I'm rewatching Leverage now after seeing it in broadcast (2008-12), while Nate Ford functional alcoholism was an established plot point, I really did not see it on live, now on the DVDs, holy cow did that character drink.

Lou Grant (Ed Asner) the loveable drinking man. The to be great boss pulls out a bottle to sweeten up his coffee and asked Mary, who is there for an interview if she wants "a blast". That's what we grew up with.

It's one of those things I can't do anything about, so I just chill out.
