Help recieved and appreciated.

Opened a can of San Marzano tomatoes and there are leaves in it! Would it be safe to pick out the leaves and cook with the tomatoes? These are large leaves, not little pieces.

Thanks to all who replied.

Sometimes they are packed with basil. Are you sure that's not basil? RockRaven Mar 23 #1

There could be basil or oregano in there. If you can't positively identify the mystery leaves, throw it away.

Take a photo and send it with a friendly but concerned letter. I have done this twice and received coupons for free stuff, plus a nice response assuring me I was a valued customer.

I've learned to check their cans closely for dents, especially the larger ones.

A good company wants to know if there are problems. I’ve had occasion to point out issues twice. Both times I was thanked and offered compensation.
