We are still working our way through the crockpot roast.
I'm thinking of BBQ Sandwiches, homemade onion rings, and a big salad.
Hw about you?

(39,961 posts)I might fire up the grill in a little while and throw some on there. Naturally, I'll need diced onion, cheese and mustard. Lots of mustard!
Am I the only one that LOVES cheese on my hot dog? I like it on chili dogs, too (with onion and mustard).

(50,130 posts)But it won't be for today's supper. LOTS of mustard. It's good for you, too! And I like to cut a slit in the length of the hot dog and insert a piece of cheddar. I use the broiler to cook dogs, and the cheese is all melty by the time the dog is done.
Or I like to put dogs in a pan of sauerkraut and simmer for a while. Good flavor that way.
I haven't had a dog since July 4. It's time!!

(14,892 posts)to give in to those cravings! And I agree about the "lots of mustard."

(146,218 posts)Speaking of cheese, I am not ashamed to admit that I am particularly fond of the cheddarwursts that have the cheese incorporated into them.
Enjoy!

(146,218 posts)I love them and used to grow them every season because I truly dislike the canned or frozen ones.

I make thinner patties, pile some sauteed mushrooms and onions and cheddar. Top it with another patty, seal it up. We are having some baked beans on the side.
I have to run to the mom & pop grocery, so I'm going to get some of their excellent cole slaw to serve instead of the baked beans.
I like to put blue cheese in the middle. My second favorite is feta and some BBQ sauce.

(146,218 posts)I need a grocery run and am putting them on my list this time.

(175,748 posts)You definitely need a grocery run. Going to a restaurant is a nice option, too.

(146,218 posts)They have a grocery store - not a very good grocery store, but it will do.

(175,748 posts)I use Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce for the final 1/2 hour in the oven, and a rub before.

(146,218 posts)Their meat supply is very hit or miss, but I am going to keep my fingers crossed.
We also have a friend their that does them really well. Puts them on our little grill for a crisping at the end.
You are making my mouth water.

(146,218 posts)It's probably just because I was overwhelmed with the whole experience that it just doesn't taste the same at home.
My parents had friends in congress and were activists, so we would occasionally go down there for lunch. I always spent that time in a state of awe. Even got to sit in speakers seats in the house and senate. Very cool.

(12,253 posts)cornbread dressing with sausage and mushrooms, steam-sauteed fresh Brussells Sprouts, and a fresh cranberry sauce. For the cranberry sauce I boiled 1-1/2 C cranberries in 1/2 C. water with scant 1/4 C. vanilla sugar, cooked until berries are popped, cooled slightly, then added them to a mix of a handful of dried date pieces, supremed orange segments, a small grating of orange rind, one chopped Gala apple tossed in lemon and orange juice. Tossed them all together and it came out nicely.
This all started with a 3 mile r/t hike to pick up a prescription at the drug store in advance of the storm and to pick up a few things at the A&P. I bought a pack of 5 chicken legs to make into cat food. After I cut the most of the meat off I decided to roast the bones and make stock. Onion, carrot, garlic, and celery later and a generous amount of white wine later, I thought...gotta make gravy. It's nice to finally sit down.

(146,218 posts)I took a very long road trip after Katrina, including going all the way across Canada.
I was very shocked to get up one October morning to discover that it was Thanksgiving. I thought I had lost a whole month somewhere, lol.
Sounds great. Enjoy!
yellerpup
(12,253 posts)but originally from Oklahoma. I've had Canadians at a few of my Thanksgiving parties but always on the third Thursday in November. I would think that after Katrina, taking a road trip would be both exhausting and restorative. Lose-it laughter is sublimely healing. Wish I could have been there, I'm sure the moment was golden.
I like spectacular Thanksgivings. Today I made a killer broth and after that just let the food I had on hand guide me. Upside--leftovers tomorrow!

(106,886 posts)With a little stock, spices. Covered, set in a slow oven and left alone for ~ 2 hours. Came out pretty good.
I'm thinking shredded beef sandwiches will be up for tomorrow.

(35,707 posts)Wow, yellerpup, I am so impressed. That sounds like a terrific meal and I might try it myself. Love cranberries.
I started to make my zucchini crust pizza but I got worn out after processing six cups of zucchini. I'll finish it tomorrow. So I had two very thin breaded pork cutlets for dinner. They had lemon slices on them.
Earlier in the day, though, I went out for lunch with my friend. Had manicotti.
